“Great place for a stopover, well recommended”
Reviewed August 23, 2010

So, a couple of things...:
The Rowan Tree is a great place to stay - we stayed for two nights in a double room with our 21-month old (I was in town to cycle the Etape Hibernia). The room was ensuite, with an extra bunkbed thrown in, no extra cost! Lots of room (good thing too; the little one loves to run around!!!)
The staff were excellent - all the signs tell you they're friendly, and it's true! The hostel itself has no parking, but we were allowed to use a staff spot for the restaurant to unload (travel cot and all) before being directed to the nearby, onstreet parking. Also, they were very helpful in sorting bike storage, and in dealing with a little issue on check-out (more to follow).
The sleep quality rating has nothing to do with the hostel - that's just me being funny with mattresses - the two ladies both had great nights' sleep!!!
The kitchen is perfect, the breakfast is basic, but well appreciated (and the perfect set-up for 134km of cycling of a Sunday morning!)
The Rowan Tree Cafe next door is very nice - good food, reasonable prices, very child friendly, and so convenient!
So, the only word of caution after all of this is on the security - no issues with rooms, etc., but the storage area for bikes (although supposedly locked overnight) was a bit disappointing - someone took a fancy to my bottlecages, and decided to unscrew them and help themselves...! (Beats me why, but I'm glad I had a lock over the rest of the bike)! Either way, we had a lovely time at reception the next morning watching the guy on the security feed, and the staff were super friendly and helpful about the whole thing!

This place was very CLEAN! My friends and I stayed in a room with our own bath. There was a twin size bunk bed and a double bed. Four people could have slept there but we were only three, so we had lots of space. It was very refreshing to open the window at night. The town is very central--everything we wanted to visit was within 3 hours driving--very doable! The staff at RT were very friendly and helpful.

I enjoyed this hostel and this town very much!

The room was clean, comfy beds an reasonably spacious. However the bunks are all lined up in a row, quite close together. This I a little storage considering how much spare space is in the room, but this is one of only two small problems I have with the whole hostel.

The other being that despite the bathrooms being clean, spacious and I never had to wait for a shower; the showers operate on a timer and only last about 30 seconds. I understand why this system is in place and it's easy enough to just press the button again for back-to-back 30 second showers, so just a slight inconvenience in an otherwise great hostel!

The kitchen is huge (like, commercial kitchen size) clean and well equipped with lots of fridge space. The included breakfast was a good bonus and wifi worked well in the large dining room.

The staff were helpful and friendly and happy to provide directions and suggestions of what to see and do around town.

I enjoyed my stay, thank you!

You can't get a more convenient location; a more amenable staff; or a more spotlessly clean and safe place to stay! Highly recommended!
