We recently stayed in this guesthouse by the water, a really lovely location with seating on a deck beside the steam to enjoy . We were placed in a downstairs bedroom for our two night stay and despite advertising Free Internet in all areas this was not the case. The bedrooms are spacious and well appointed however we did not get to enjoy our room as we were always having to go upstairs to a guest lounge to use our internet and were told that yes it did not work downstairs. There are 4 rooms out of the 14 on offer downstairs so I feel this to be false advertising that internet is available in all areas. The operators of the guesthouse also had a rather stingy attitude and always were the lights turned off to the staircase and downstairs section of the house even when we were upstairs using the guest lounge, which made it quite dark to safely use the stairwell.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide a rating we appreciate all feedback provided.
We are happy you enjoyed some elements of your stay.
On the wifi, as we have had issue with the router/booster we have updated the webpage and websites of our affiliates to state that wifi is free in the reception area. Until such time that we get efibre broadband to our home (which is expected this week) we have updated the description on our websites.
We offered you the most restful and peaceful rooms in the house downstairs with river access, if you werne't happy to be downstairs and would have preferred an upstairs room, you should have requested one and if one was available we would have gladly provided you with same.

There is a lamp at the bottom of the stairs going down to the 4 rooms which remains on at all times. There would never have been an occasion where this lamp was turned off for safety reasons. If you believe this lamp was turned off then please alert me to that as this lamp remains on at all times. We certainly would never risk people's safety over the price of a low energy bulb, (thankfully we are not that badly off) as we are energy aware and it is better for the environment. :)

Thanks for your feedback.

Best regards,
Anne and PJ Purcell

Before arrival in Shannon, we booked this B&B via the WEB; as they take credit cards (unusual for B*&B in Ireland). The rooms are very clean. There are some that smell of smoke. The smoke small is not overwhelming; but annoying for a non-smoking B&B. The back is quiet. The front faces the road (can be busy). The breakfast was Irish typical; but not fantastic.

Room Tip: rear of facility - not facing the road

Thank you so much for your time in providing the rating as we appreciate all feedback provided.
We apologise if your stay was uncomfortable due to the smell of smoke. We advise people that we have very sensitive smoke alarms fitted in the room and that all smoking should take place outdoors. Unfortunately we cannot legislate for what goes on in people's rooms. We try to air them out as much as possible during the day in this scenario. We will be aware of this in the future.
We hope you enjoyed your stay in Ennis.

Our first taste of Ireland, and what a wonderful one. We arrived to a booking problem after a 30 hour travel day. The room had been booked for the wrong month and there was no booking. Although they were pretty full, it was fixed in minutes. We had a wonderful room. When we found the music festival and fell in love with Ennis and it was a full busy weekend, we found they had held 2 rooms back for just such an eventuality and we could stay another day, and another, and another. Breakfast was excellent, everything was clean, location out of town and beautiful, and the owners kind and helpful.

The place was great, the hospitality spot-on. I needed a place to stay at the last minute, the booking process was flawless. When I arrived I was allocated a front-facing room but on request I was moved to a quiet rear-facing room looking out over the river. I got to relax in the peace and quiet after quite a long trip. Perfect.

I did not stay for breakfast but if it is to the same standard as the rest of the accomodation then no doubt it will be first rate. The room was definately big enough for me and well furnished. Tea, coffee and TV in the room.

Overall, Excellent value, I would stay again

Room Tip: Ask for a room to the rear, overlooking the garden and the river

Loved the hotel, the hospitality of the owners and the staff, and the room was lovely. Couldnt fault anything about the hotel... we stayed in a room that had patio doors onto the rear garden overlooking the decking and the river. The large room was spotless, had TV hot drink facilities and plenty of hot water and fresh towels every day. The breakfast set us up for the day (a choice of cooked varieties as well as cereal and yoghurts) and we even got a lift into town whenever we needed by the owners - such a lovely gesture. There is a gym and sauna if need be, free wi-fi. All in all a perfect 4 day break for exploring Ennis and the surrounding areas. So if your looking for a break to take in all the pleasures of this idilic Irish setting you wont be disapointed - our only wish was that we had longer to stay but after our break there we will return soon.

Room Tip: hotel about 2-3 miles from centre of town.

Ardilaun Guesthouse was the first place we stayed at on our trip to Ireland. It was the perfect spot for an exhausted, jet-lagged couple to recover! I knew it was a bit far from the center of town, but we were struggling to keep our eyes open at 5pm so it really didn't matter. Instead, we spent a quiet evening reading by the window, looking out over the little river in the backyard, watching the cows go home on the other side - exactly what we needed to build up our strength for the rest of the trip!

The room was big, clean and cozy, and the bed was comfy. Breakfast was great. It was far too cold and windy to enjoy the outdoors that evening, but there's a beautiful deck by the river that must be heavenly in the summer. It's also very close to a grocery store, which also makes it a great option for your first night.

The only issue I had was in reserving a room - the e-mail address on the website doesn't seem to work. But Booking.com and a ten cent Skype call to confirm the reservation did the trick.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the back with a view of the river! Or near the lobby area for a stronger wi-fi sig...

In trying to find this guest house, I was disappointed that it was quite a distance out of the town. However, it proved to be a lovely setting and well worth the distance. The lady of the house greeted us at the door and checked us in. The room was lovely - big and well furnished. Our view from the window was of the river and the well kept gardens and decking area which would be a real attraction in the warmer months. The room was well equipped with all we would need. Breakfast next morning was lovely and served by a very friendly lady who was of great help but not intrusive. The menu was as good as any hotel menu and we made the most of it.
Although quite far out of town, this guest house is well worth the trip and would really suit a young family needing space or someone who would appreciate the lovely gardens and relaxation areas.

Room Tip: We found the site to be very specific when booking and the owner was very attentive to individual ne...
