We had a lovely time in Western Ireland and a large part of that was due to the Irish hospitality of Sheelagh and Domnall. They provided a lovely breakfast each day. Domnall even got local specialties from the bakery when he found out we all know quality bread. Our two friends were hiking each day and Domnall made them tasty (and plentiful) packed lunches for quite a reasonable price. I'm a talker and they even took the time for good discussions about the area, Irish, etc.
To Americans who are new to Europe: Western Ireland is a less than wealthy part of the world and much less prosperous than Dublin. This is a family business, so please don't expect the standards you get in America for the same price. (To get those low prices our fellow Americans are often earning a pittance -- literally!) Yes the decor is a bit dated, but it wasn't shabby in either of the rooms we had. We've been in hotels that were much less clean and equally dated without the charm and useful information. Not only that, but the hotel staff were rude and/or ignorant.

Sheelagh & Domhnall Lynch are phenomenal innkeepers. They made our first experience to Ireland a memorable one. They were very helpful in where to visit and what to skip! The food was superb. I would highly recommend staying here. I cannot say enough about our experience.

Had 2 nights booked and were glad to move on. You can hear every door close, toilet flush, and conversation through the thin walls. They ran out of hot water for a morning shower. The room was clean, although it probably has not been updated since the 1970's (including a black and white TV). Staff was helpful, but not especially friendly. With as many optiona as there are in Ennis, you can make a better choice.

I booked this bed and breakfast on the basis of the positive reviews made previously and the description of Luxury 3 star accommodation on their website. How bitterly disappointed we were. Especially as we came to Ennis for my Birthday meal at The Cloisters restaurant, it was a shame the accommodation was far from special unlike the restaurant which was the saving grace of the whole stay in Ennis.
We were placed in Room 2 on the ground floor. A small room for a double but adequate with the built in wardrobe for luggage and clothes.... better if it hadn't been stuffed with junk on the top shelves and an old TV! However, thankfully we were only staying one night!
The first thing I noticed was that the bed (while it had a pretty duvet and matching pillowcases) it looked like it had been slept in by someone else. I was even dubious that it hadn't been as there was a top sheet underneath that did look clean and ironed. I had to wonder if they just change the sheets not the duvet? The covers were crumpled and un-ironed.
The worst part was the filth! The floor was dusty and dirty, the bottom of the draws were covered in stains, there were cobwebs in the corners of the room, layers of dust on the skirting boards and I could write in the dust on the top of the TV!!!! In the bathroom the tiles on the walls looked newly done and it was done in a wet room style but the floor had hairs on it and the shower head was grimey. There was a hand soap dispenser on the sink.... empty!
As for boutique .... a run down half hearted cant be bothered attempt ... the paint on the walls (particularly the blue) was chipped and the wall by the bin was stained with tea and coffee. There was only one bedside table so I had to move a chair and use that to put my phone and tea cup on. The furniture is mismatched, one of the mahogany chairs was quite nice but the rest was cheap chipboard.. the wardrobe white the draws cream with handles dirty and worn out and looked from the 70's. As were the hooks for the tie back curtains which were rusted and had spread to the curtain tie backs. There were also two scatter cushions stuffed in the wardrobe presumably because they didn't match the bedding??? The room has patio style door/windows which open to the car park and you can hear everything that is going on in reception there is no soundproofing at all.
I had wondered if we just got a duff room as it was the last one... but when we went to have out breakfast I noticed the dust levels on the dressers in the breakfast room either side of the window were equally covered as bad from dust!
What can I say that was nice.... the breakfast was cooked well and the service is friendly but unfortunately on our next visit to the restaurant/ Ennis we will be looking for somewhere else to stay. You are not boutique and you are not 3 star! Travel Lodge do a much better job!
We paid the unwarranted €70 and left and thankfully were not asked if we enjoyed our stay! Cant imagine why?

Normally we stay in hotels and it is many years since we have stayed in a small guesthouse
or bed and breakfast. Ennis was booked out due to a Big Tom Concert, so we luckily
found Westbrook House. Although it is a "Guesthouse" it could be a small Boutique Hotel, they even have have a reception desk and lobby filled with interesting tourist information. Our room for 3 was beautiful and very large, open and airy and immaculate. The hosts were wonderful and friendly and although we hadn't ordered breakfast they provided a fantastic breakfast for very little extra. If more guesthouses could offer more of a small hotel experience like Westbrook, I am sure more people would opt for a Guesthouse stay. Well done Sheelagh and Domhall!

Room Tip: Top floor room was really spacious

Hosts could not have been more welcoming, always had time to talk. We booked two rooms, one with twin beds, one with a full size bed. Full Irish breakfast with many other breakfast options was included in price. Try the cheese plate! This B & B has recently undergone renovations. Rooms were clean, beds were comfortable, showers excellent. Ennis is minutes away. Highly recommend.

This is a wonderful B&B first because the owners, Sheelagh and Domhnall, are so welcoming. I wish I had planned more time to sit and talk with them. The rooms are very nice, clean and comfortable. We were there one night to take in some of the festival. However, it is very well located to visit the Burren, the coast and to get to Shannon Airport. We can strongly recommend it.
