The Burren is an isolated, dry limestone area on the West Coast of Ireland, You will feel like you landed on the moon when you leave behind the lush green landscapes and come in contact with this flat barren area.

I have found that many parts of the West Coast of Ireland are unique and different to each other - travel a few hours north or south and the terrain changes. The Burren in one of the most unique places I have visited, due to it's unique geological features. I'd advise the coast road and stop from time to time to take in the beauty. There are some interesting sights in the Burren away from the coast, so you can loop up into the hills and back down. It is one of the quieter parts of Ireland.

Well worth a visit, but how long you stay is related to your interest in geology and unique ecosystems.

The Burren is definitely an iconic area of Ireland that you need to visit, if nothing else for it's unique rocky landscape. As for how long you spend, you can honestly see the highlights in a few hours, or you can spend a day if you really want to hike and explore. At the very least, stop at Leamaneh Castle for a few quick pics from the outside (you can't go in), pay to visit Caherconnell Ring Fort (if you haven't seen other ring forts in Ireland), see Poulnabrone Dolmen (it's free and unique), and explore Aillwee Caves (if you're a lover of caves--otherwise, you can probably skip this).

The landscape is so very interesting. You will feel like you are standing on another planet. Yes, it's "just" rocks, but the fact that there are so many rocks...interesting! The cracks and crevasses are cool too.
