Owner description: Bare limestone plateau characterized by carboniferous limestone abounding in corals, mollusks and other fossils that lived in the shallow seas over 300 million years ago.

This was once an ocean bottom near the equator when it was part of Pangea. Very stark, desolate landscape of vast limestone fields, sprinkled with ancient stone ring forts and tombs.

This area is still unspoiled and visitors seem to respect the fragile nature of this unique area.
I visited 20 years ago, and at the Polnabrone Dolmen had to park on a narrow country lane. They now have a parking area that looks natural, far enough away from the site so as not to interfere with the beauty, and well maintained paths to it. Unlike the Cliffs of Moher, this was done right as Ireland expanded serviced to accomodate increased tourism. Nice job and worth the time to see.

Have to see it to understand it's beauty. Just drive coastline towards Cliffs of Moher to feel the beauty.

Very interesting geological feature. Park up on the side of the road and walk over this strange moonscape. You can even walk to the edge of the cliff to get great photos.

The Burren's lunar landscape is something that you have to see to believe. Other than our visit to Iceland, my wife and I have never seen such a unique landscape. Not only is it beautiful, but it is a treasure trove of history and is loaded with interesting sites to explore. We allowed ourselves 2 full days to explore the Burren and the nearby Cliffs of Moher, and were very happy with this choice.
