Went there end of June and it was absolutely amazing! In the parking lot, only 3 cars. We wanted to stay away from tourist-crowded places, and this was heavenly. We did not visit the lighthouse, just wanted to walk around. The wild flowers, the funky birds, the views were just so enjoyable! It was my favorite spot in Ireland!
On the way we had also seen the Bridge of Ross, where we were welcomed by an Irish sheep dog who came with us for a while. Looking for the Bridge of Ross, by mistake, we had made a turn on some path, and since no one was around, except for 1 car at the end of the path, we assumed this was the way to the Bridge of Ross. We ended up on top of some cliffs more beautiful than the Cliffs of Moher, not a soul around! We never saw the owner of the other car.
However, on the way back to the main road, we saw a farmer come out from a farm right next to the path and suddenly fearing we might really have trespassed on his property, we stopped and asked. To our utter embarrassment, we had indeed driven through his property. But he was the nicest man and dismissed it right away and chatted with us for 30 minutes, introduced us to his son, before giving us directions to the Ross Bridge. What an amazing backyard that was!!!!

Since they opened up the Light House to the public, what was a great thing to visit is now even better.

There's a fee to visit the lighthouse and to be honest the exhibition is interesting, but there's not much to it. The highlight, of course, is the opportunity to climb to the top of the light house and it's well worth it.

You get some interesting info from your guide and some amazing views to boot.

If you don't fancy paying for the light house, you can still walk around the outside for free, taking in the local flora and wildlife and going as close to the edge of the cliffs as you wish. Fionn's Leap (an outcrop of rock separated from the head by a sheer drop of a couple of hundred metres) is a big highlight.

The drive back to Kilkee is beautiful, but be sure to stop off in Carrigaholt on the way.

Visited Loophead lighthouse yesterday. lovely drive once you leave motorway at Ennis, beautiful and colourful countryside and well kept villages. through to Kilrush and on to Kilkee. Once you leave Kilkee it's still a good drive to the lighthouse. It's described as Ireland's premier attraction on local radio. Entry to the lighthouse is either 3euro for a visit to exhibition or 5euro if you wish to climb the lighthouse stairs. We opted just to visit the exhibition. 3 small rooms containing some interesting information and a video running again of some interest .
The toilet facilities were disgraceful and I was shocked, peeling plaster, dirty woodwork and windows. shame on who ever looks after this attraction . Will not call again.

Booked through the Irish Landmark trust, we stayed in this stunning building for 2 nights, experiencing so much of what loop head has to offer. If you plan on staying in the area, and there's a group of you, check out the lighthouse for accomodation. I'll definitely be going back.
