Have visited the Chop and Ale house several times and enjoyed it but as this was a special birthday treat we decided to book the main Champany restaurant. I was so glad we did as the whole experience was lovely. The waiters were very welcoming and attentive but not to the point where it became intrusive. The food was absolutely amazing. The Stilton salad starter was delicious but would have been enough as a main course for me. The chicken liver parfait was very tasty and the accompanying warm brioche made it even more special. The steaks were huge and accompanied by a lovely dressed salad and chips. Too much to finish but parcelled in a dodgy box complete with label so brownie points from the dog when we arrived home. The desserts were simply wonderful and the birthday cradle on the ice- cream was an excellent and unexpected touch considering that it had only been mentioned in a brief chat as we were being seated.

So glad we chose the main restaurant and we will return again even if we have nothing special to celebrate. The staff and atmosphere are super and well worth the expense. Thank you
Champany for completing a special birthday for me.

Sublime steak, quite simply the best bit of meat I have had this year. To top it off the service was attentive, helpful and friendly. It is such a rare experience to have a fantastic meal in a great environment with great service, I have no hesitation in giving top marks.

the whole experience was lovely. , but i think they need to get gardener in, place needed weeding , very tifed , no fresh flowers as rhey show on website, . also we were made to feel very second class when we went for pre dinner drink , obviously in wrong place ,, the owner is omnipresent ,, i appreciate she has to favour her regular clients ,, which she did to great effecfect but i felt we were ignored to be honest . not enough money . ... having said that we had lovely stay which we thoroughly enjoyed , also quite confusing as tp whre to go also no complimentry drink in our room , unless you count water

we were greeted very warmly on arrival as if we were expected without anyone having to check a reservations book, we sat in a lovely comfy area waiting for our table when it was ready our drinks were carried through for us.we chose from the set £42 menu-- not a huge choice but suited us, the steaks and chips were lovely, and the desserts were delicious--- absolutely plenty to eat, Staff (loads of them) are very pleasant and attentive. Wine was priced well at £5.15. per glass. we didn't realise you can also buy wine there from the cellar there!!! Parking is not very good-- down the hilly bit. we would go again but would have to be a special occasion as it could be very pricy.

I had always loved a visit here, the steak was amazing and the service outstanding. Last night, having raved about this place to friends, I should have eaten my words rather than the steak! At best the food was average. Expensive, but average. The server was sullen and unhelpful too. Service was slow.

This place used to be fantastic but has really gone down hill, such a shame.

From the moment you arrive a warm smile in welcome, then shown to a lovely (very Scottish looking) room, with complimentary gin and tonic (or whisky, and water) and ice ready to greet you.
Having booked a table for dinner in the Chop and Ale (glad I did very busy) was looked after well, good homely food, a huge portion and lovely glass of the South African red which is their house wine.
Folowing dinner a nice trip round the wine shop where theres an array of gems for all palates.
Bed very comfy and all the amenities you need. Look forward to returning soon.

We stayed here for one night to celebrate my husband's birthday and we had a lovely time. The room was really nice and spacious with a big bathroom and soft fluffy towels. We had dinner in the Chop and Ale house which was great with very good service. We had a drink in the cocktail lounge when we first arrived and were served by Alfonse (a lovely Spanish gentleman) who made us feel very welcome and special. Breakfast was superb - you can watch the Chef cooking your breakfast for you, it is served piping hot and all the ingredients are really good quality. We will definitely be back.
