We have just returned from a visit to this charming Inn where we celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and our room was lovely. It overlooked the garden at the rear, the bed was extremely comfortable and there was a welcoming half bottle of bubbly waiting for us. We ate in the Steak House Restaurant with it's unusual peaked ceiling. It's very rustic and charming. It is expensive but the steaks are huge and just so tender and flavoursome. The only downside was I was still so full from the night before I couldn't do justice to a cooked breakfast. We will definitely be back.

It's difficult to compare Champany to a hotel as it doesn't do the normal hotel facilities but is much more than a B&B.

The rooms were huge with standard hotel zip link beds which gave a comfortable night sleep. the bathroom was massive with a rather odd shower enclosure and basic finishes, white tiles and vinyl floor, nothing wrong but no wow factor in there. It was quite noisy but that was down to other guests slamming doors and talking loudly down the corridor. Worth noting that there is radiator heating only and no A/C if you come in a rare Scottish heatwave!

Having eaten at the Chop & Ale house several times it was up to the usual high standard for evening meal and breakfast was brilliant too.

As an alternative to main stream hotels this place really wins.

We stayed here for 2 nights this last weekend and what a great experience it was. The service levels were great and the rooms well kept and beautifully decorated. We had dinner at the main restaurant, which was expensive but really worth the money. We will definitely be coming back here. We also arranged baby sitting through the hotel for our 3 year old son, and what a wonderful young lady who came to look after him.

My wife and I took the chop and ale house overnight accommodation deal for a special birthday. We had heard wonderful comments made about the food and in particular the steaks, however our experience was not so positive. We ordered the T bone at £25 per steak to be served rare and were bitterly disappointed as they has clearly been on fire, very charred and inside were medium. They were served with salad, coleslaw and chips and the only "sauce" offered was English mustard. The only flavour tasted was the charring which was bitter, it could have been slightly improved with a sauce or even some mayonnaise, which would also have added some moisture to a very dry dish. We quite frankly have far better steaks at home and would not recommend the steaks here, wish we'd had the fish and chips. Staff were disinterested and did not even ask if we enjoyed our meal, which is a first. If you want a good steak in Linlithgow, go to the Four Marys pub opposite the Palace, where staff are pleasant and the steaks are cooked to your specification, well presented and with a selection of vegetables and sauces. On retiring to our room, we were also amazed at there being only two tea bags and two UHT mini milks, one coffee bag and one plastic filter coffee. There were two small bottles of water and the promised Gin and Tonic and Whisky mentioned on their internet site were conspicuous by their absence, which is a pity as we would have enjoyed that during the hours we couldn't sleep due to an infernal noise coming from our bathroom vent all night. We were looking forward to our breakfast which also failed to impress as the full Champany was a big let down. The substance looked like bacon but tasted of cardboard, the mushrooms and tomato were tasteless and the poached eggs were running in water which soaked everything on the plate, the black pudding was a lump of charcoal and the toast was hot bread with a miniscule amount of unsalted butter adding to the blandness of the entire experience, overall a waste of over £200. We cannot recommend it and most certainly won't be back.

After a rainy day in Linlithgow, it was such a wonderful surprise to find a bottle of champagne in an ice bucket waiting for us in our room. What a mood lifter! The accommodations were lovely and the bed comfy. We were also impressed with the friendly and helpful staff at the front desk. Our stay was enhanced by the delicious dinner at the Champany Inn restaurant and delectable breakfast the next morning. This is a special place, indeed-one that we would return to in a heartbeat if future travels make it possible. Highly recommended!!!

Room Tip: There are only three, so book early!!
