One day last week five of us popped into the bar of this hotel for lunch. We all chose something different and it would be fair to say that the overall score was 4 satisfied diners out of 5. The macaroni cheese and haddock in batter merited particular praise. It has to be said however that I used to dine here 3 or 4 times a year, although this was my first visit after a gap of about 5 years, and I particularly remembered that the fish and chips was always served with a very good salad, now it is only the usual boring frozen peas. The one disappointed diner was my brother who took the steak and ale pie which he described as mediocre. My brother has catering qualifications and is an accomplished cook so he knows what he is talking about. All in all it was a reasonable meal at a fair price.
As somewhere to eat the venue is comfortable with a bit of character and the staff were pleasant and efficient. The beer is good too!
