“Not bad for a pub lunch”
Reviewed January 23, 2012

One day last week five of us popped into the bar of this hotel for lunch. We all chose something different and it would be fair to say that the overall score was 4 satisfied diners out of 5. The macaroni cheese and haddock in batter merited particular praise. It has to be said however that I used to dine here 3 or 4 times a year, although this was my first visit after a gap of about 5 years, and I particularly remembered that the fish and chips was always served with a very good salad, now it is only the usual boring frozen peas. The one disappointed diner was my brother who took the steak and ale pie which he described as mediocre. My brother has catering qualifications and is an accomplished cook so he knows what he is talking about. All in all it was a reasonable meal at a fair price.

As somewhere to eat the venue is comfortable with a bit of character and the staff were pleasant and efficient. The beer is good too!

Stayed as a stop over travelling further North.

Clean and tidy room.

Dated interior, but for the price acceptable.

Breakfast was good.

stayed here for 1 night friday 4th november as we were attending a family function in linlithgow. booked it last minute with late rooms .com for £30 for b&b for two. yes the rooms are small but perfectly clean and adequate. staff were very friendly and a nice hearty breakfast in the morning. great. linlithgow itself is a lovely place to visit, nice walks and views. all in all a bargain.

Linlithgow is a nice little town located 20 mins drive from Edinburgh and 30 mins drive from Glasgow - alternatively has a train station serving both cities. Plenty to do locally too - country parks, the loch and palace, a few decent pubs and restaurants. The West Port is a small hotel with a few rooms at the end of the main street. Excellent value, great staff and a delicious cooked breakfast. Yes, the rooms are a bit basic and not very big, but perfectly clean, comfortable and with everything you need. You'll pay twice as much in Edinburgh or Glasgow to get somewhere that's not as good as this ! Definitely recommended for a business trip to the area or for people wanting to spend some time in the cities but save cash on accommodation.

We booked trough laterooms at a rate of £30 B&B which I'd say was about right as the room was clean but tired the bathroom however was in a state of disrepair (the shower unit fell to bits when you tried to adjust the height and there were holes in the tiles where the cistern or toilet had been renewed)

The staff were very helpfull and friendly and Linlithgow it's self is well worth a visit. we dined in the hotel restaurant and while the food was good the room lacked any kind of charcter or charm. By far the highlight of the stay was breakfast which was superb.

All in all OK but only OK at £30 had we paid the full rate of £80 then I would have been well cheesed off - the rooms need some serious attention before I pay anywhere near that for a stay

I found the staff very helpful and friendly, however the rooms are basic but quite comfortable. My room was a single at the front of the hotel overlooking the main road. I was pleasantly suprised how little noise came from the street. The down side was the room was very small as was the shower room, but for one night it was fine. Free internet conection and reasonable priced food in the bar. I actually got a good nights sleep, for a change. If you want a friendly reasonably priced room with breakfast (Which was excellent by the way) this will be fine for your one night stay.
