“Nice hotel but noisy”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

Stayed here for a few days . Paid for a luxury room although I wouldn't have said it was a luxury room like shown in the pictures . The bed was comfortable and the bathroom modern.
There was a large plasma tv but the signal was so poor we were only able to get a couple of channels.
The location of the room was right next to a door in the corridor so every time someone walked through it it made our door rattle and this became annoying when it happened throughout the night !
On one of the nights there was a function an this seemed to go on for quite some time . I don't object to anyone having a good time but again the noise is annoying when woken up in the early hours by music and people chatting !
Despite a few issues I wouldn't object to staying here again!

Me, hubby and baby treated ourselves to a wee night away. When we booked with the lovely and helpful Julie I knew we would enjoy ourselves. And we did. We booked here as we were hedging our bets about the best way to spend the next day (my birthday) depending on what the weather did...... if the sun shone we were heading to Loch Lomond. – if it didn’t the Riverside Museum and Kelvingrove. Either way is 20 minutes by train. Ah, Scotland and the weather, it was the latter the next day. Great day out.

The stay in the hotel was a giggle from start to finish. We booked into a premier room but for some unfathomable but unquestionably most excellent reason we were upgraded to the Honeymoon Suite. Result!! At least it was for the two year old – this must be the least child friendly room we have ever stayed in... – she loved it!

There was no lift, couldn’t find the room as the number wasn’t on the door, no travel cot that was asked for, glass mirrored furniture with sharp edges, two loud functions happening in tandem, no high chairs, no gated outdoor space and too many cars and very much car park...
.. but.. - the biggest trampoline (bed) we have ever seen, the loveliest staff, restaurant with live music with a real live singer at their in-house piano (he was a magnificent and unexpected treat), food to die for at incredibly reasonable prices, - fillet steak and stroganoff, yum,. .and, did I mention the wonderful staff?, an incredible breakfast (check its included in your booking)..... and a location that affords choices.

Still smiling as I write. Lots you could pick fault with, but so much more that you can’t –we went with the flow and that made for a special treat - one of the best days away we have ever had. .. and a huge thank you to all the staff who made that for us. xx

Ideally situated on the Highland side of the Erskine Bridge the Dumbuck appears to be an ideal place stop off when after a long drive North.
First impressions of the Dumbuck when arriving is of a once grand hotel which has fallen into disrepair. The gardens appear neglected and generally untidy. On entering the Dumbuck the reception has been recently renovated and looks very smart. The receptionist was really friendly and welcoming. The lift was not available on our visit which would be a problem for disabled.
The bedroom was spacious but decorated in khaki and maroon and appeared to have been painted in a hurry. The bed was small, I'm 6'2" and I slept most of the night with my feet sticking out of the end. Room cleaning could have been better, a lot of dust can be seen on top of the bedroom units and the bathroom floor could have benefited from a good scrub.
The bar are like the reception and dining room have been recently refurbished and look good.
The food was fine for the price though most of the items on the menu were not available. Before leaving we settled for the Continental Breakfast which was nicely presented but quoted pastries and yoghurt and none were to be found.
The Dumbuck's finest asset are the Staff who are lovely but really overstretched in the evening. One girl was trying to run the bar and the dining room and it was just too much, more staff are needed, especially at the weekend.
For the cost the Dumbuck is excellent value but more staff and a higher standard of renovation is needed if it is to survive.

We stayed here whilst we were visiting friends nearby. Not sure I would stay here other than for convenience.Rooms were OK although the view was of a flat roof and the back of a building.Corridors scruffy but reception area/bar/restaurant all re-vamped if a little garish.Food was good and all the staff were helpful and welcoming. The best part was the £35.00 bill which does put all the above into perspective.

Room Tip: Ask if they have any with a view

We stayed at the Dumbuck for a family wedding.
The Hotel has been nicely decorated and is clean and modern. Our room was very well appointed with a large bathroom containing a bath and seperate shower, an extremely comfy bed and a walk in wardrobe.
The wedding side of things was excellent - great food & great silver service.
On the other hand, unfortunately, whoever 'planned' for the guests staying fot the wedding needs either a different job or complete re-training. Many items on the food menu were not available and the one or two members of staff trying to deal with 20 plus guests were just over-run. Management desperately need to pass a HUGH THANKYOU to their extremely good willed, hard working staff who genuinely were the saving grace of this establishment.
I would definately stay here again - thanks to the staff.

After a friendly greeting, myself and my partner were sat in the well finished dining room. The only waitress that seemed to be on duty gave us the lunch menu which for a hotel is tiny, 5 main courses, of which all available at the nearby asda cafe, we sat for almost ten minutes (which isn't long to employees but is a lifetime to a customer) We were asked if we would like to order, shortly after our drinks arrived which had half an ice cube in them each and had no garnish, at this point we decided to lower our expectations of what looked like an upmarket establishment but was turning out to be worse than a generic Premier inn. My soup arrived luke warm with cold slices from a baguette, after the first course was cleared the mains arrived promptly although when they did they were disappointing. The burger I ordered was no better than the burger you can get for a pound from the burger vans dotted about the area. My partners chose the special of the day which was lasagne, and was made to choose between having it with fries or salad, obviously to con people into buying a side order of whichever they didn't choose. The menu is cheap and the food shows that, a major let down from somewhere that has a lot of potential. This restaurant seems like it mainly caters to the over 60's demographic as these are the kind of dishes suited to them and not a wider variety of diners. If you're looking for a local alternative try The Beardmore hotel in dalmuir, Singers bar in Clydebank or World of golf cafe in drumchapel. Who all offer good service and huge choice compared to the Dumbuck and all at roughly the same price.
