Have just returned from a one night stay at the Abbotsford Hotel. Room was okay, although bathroom door would not shut properly (room 26). Bed nice and comfortable. Could not comment on evening meal. However breakfast was good. Fruit juices, cereals and the usual cooked breakfast. The hotel needs updating in certain areas, but otherwise okay.

I visited the Abbotsford recently and was bowled over by the fantastic food and the excellent service.

We ordered black pudding and haggis fritters as a starter, which were fantastic with a delightful thin and crispy batter with a tomato dip.

Three of our party ordered the sirloin steak, which was delicious and served on a platter with large home made onion rings, button mushrooms and thick cut chips. I ordered a haggis and whiskey sauce to pour over the steak.

My partner ordered the spaghetti bolognese with garlic bread, which hit the spot with a glowing verdict of delicious. The garlic bread was also light and crispy and complemented the dish perfectly.

Alas we had no room for dessert as the portion size was very generous and represented fantastic value for money. An excellent excuse to revisit this fine establishment in the near future.

A mention for the excellent service, polite and friendly at all times. Keep up the splendid work!

The outside facia of the Abbotsford Hotel is not the most attractive....but do not pass judgement on the hotel by this. It's a 'little treasure'. My husband and I were up to his home town for a family funeral so we weren't in the most positive frame of mind as you can imagine.
The lovely receptionist was so very friendly that we started to feel more positive from then onwards.
The room was nicely furnished fairly new decoration I think. ONE GRIPE ONLY no hooks or shelves in the bathroom. i.e. no hooks on back of the door, no shelf to put make up etc. The towel rail too small to hang the wet bath and hand towels to dry off.

Aside from that I can't fault this hotel at all.

The food in the restaurant was very well cooked and plentiful. If you like steak you've come to the right place!! The surf and turf fillet steak with garlic prawns was soooooo good my mouth is watering just remembering it.

Be aware the 'Scottish Breakfast' is ALL fried. So after that we had poached and scrambled eggs. Lots of cereal choice, juices. They also offer kippers and there aren't many hotels that do.

Finally my husband forgot his jacket and called the hotel and sure enough it arrived 2 days later beautifully folded.

Well done Abbotsford and your amazing staff!!!!!

Room Tip: 22 was a very quiet room. Even though there was a large wedding on Saturday, we had no problems with...

An unpretentious hotel that offers adequate parking, an on site restaurant and everything needed for a basic stop over. Well placed for Loch Lomond. Staff friendly and helpful. All bedrooms are on the ground floor. Double beds are somewhat snug! Rooms were clean, window was opened to let room air on an (uncharacteristically) hot day, coffee and tea replaced daily. Guest wi-fi just about worked in room. Breakfast excellent and quickly served.

Room Tip: Nearer to reception will help wi-fi, a room facing away from the car park removes any traffic noise.

We used this hotel as a refuge from the snowstorms that were affecting much of southern Scotland. The food was of a good quality and was very reasonably priced, but the room was in need of some updating and repairs. Entering the room we attempted to open the wardrobe, but the door knob fell off. The one easy chair [old and well battered] almost fell apart whilst being moved and could well have collapsed under an adults weight. In the bathroom, the bath side panel was hanging off, and however many times it was pushed back into place it would fall out again due to the draught coming up through the plumbing system. The light fitting in the bathroom was broken and an acryllic 'glass' sheet in the rooflight fell out on to the bathroom floor. This could have cut someone if they had been standing directly underneath. I'd like to be able to give this hotel a good review as it was clean and welcoming, but the number of defects make this impossible.

I have visted this restaurant several times over the past year and I must confess that I have never failed to be anything other than pleasantly surprised by the quality of food on offer, the variety of dishes and the efficient and friendly service by their staff.

The restaurant itself is cosmetically 'tired' however please dont let it put you off as the food is excellent both in terms of quality and value. Portions are generous, service is fairly quick and the staff are attentive without being intrusive.

Only issue I found was that the gents loo's could do with some cosmetic attention, however it was clean with lashings of hot water and well stocked with soap and working hand dryers.

In summary, good honest value fare at very reasonable prices served by conscientious staff.
