As beautiful a location for a beach that you could wish for. Lovely cafe up the hill next to a Sculpture Walk which serves great food.

“Idyllic and Atmospheric”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2011

Love Calgary Bay. It's beautiful, day and night. The camping area is opposite the public toilets, just a little further on from the main parking area for the beach, which tends to attract bird watchers who come to watch sea eagles and the like.

It's a 'wild camping' area, so there's no amenities other than the toilets, but that also means there's no designated pitches and you can park your tent or whatever where you like, and it also obviously means that it's FREE. I like the fact that they have big rocks at the entrance, placed strategically so that only smaller vehicles and campers can enter. It's not really a big enough site for larger vans etc. There are various fire circles dotted around that can be reused. A couple of our neighbours gave us freshly caught mackerel, which we wrapped and baked slowly at the edge of the fire. :)

Although the site is right next to the road, it's probably one of the quietest roads in the world at night. The only things you can hear are the waves breaking gently on the beach, and the owls catching up in the trees.

The walk around the bay to the headland is great, and there's an old jetty and the remains of the old fishing settlement to check out too.

The weather was great when we were there (considering we're talking 'Mull' here), and even the nights were clear! I don't think I'll forget the crystal clear star fields at night, and the shooting stars.

Take what you need, as there's very little around, and when you leave, be sure to drive down the West coast road, with the 14% and 20% gradients. Brilliant fun! :-/

“Wonderful beach - great for children”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2011

Wonderful wide beach in beautiful unspoiled bay - whote sand and lots of small shells, rock pools at the extremities - great for all beach activities, kite flying etc -small car park can get very busy at times so parking can be crowded at times - beach is very clean generally, occasional bit of fishing rubbish after bad weather but overall a great day

“an outdoor experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2011

An Island with brilliant views and wildlife. A place in Scotland where you can see a wild diversity of wildlife. come prepared for driving on single track roads though. The Island is well prepared for dogs,so bringing your pet is not a problem. There are various ferries to take you to different isles or you can use them to take you through the isles. Well worth a visit.

“Stunning on a clear day”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2011

Had a full day at Calgary Bay, and this is a very beatiful place. The drive from Tobemory is on a single lane road with some stunnining views. The beach itself is wonderful, and we did some walking along the northen shore of the bay, with some stunning views at the mouth of the bay.
