The garden at Lip na Cloiche is the result of 12 years labour and is impressive, I actually found the garden more interesting than the gardens at Torosay Castle!
Anyone visiting around the Ulva Ferry in north-west Mull should definitely find time to visit Lip na Cloiche Garden and Nursery.
It is plain that the proprietor’s (Lucy MacKenzie Panizzon) main interest is her garden – I am not sure that ‘obsession’ is too strong a word in this instance. When I had B&B at Lip na Cloiche, every day – including Saturday and Sunday – Mrs Panizzon woke up around 7:30am and went to bed around 10:30pm with most of the daylight hours spent working in the garden or on a related activity.
Even if you are not a gardener, I would be very surprised if anyone fails to appreciate Mrs Panizzon’s achievement or leave without an idea to improve their own garden.
If you are a gardener then no doubt you will want to exchange gardening tips.
Given the modest-size of the plot it should only take non-gardeners around an hour for a leisurely look. Gardeners may wish to tarry longer …
Mrs Panizzon does not operate a formal tea-room, however you may be able to talk her into providing tea or coffee!
There are only 2 tarmac spaces for cars – and one of these is reserved for the proprietor’s vehicle. It may be possible to squeeze in 2 small cars into the remaining space.
Alternatively there is an adjacent field, to the north of Lip na Cloiche that can be used for parking.
The only problem that Mrs Panizzon has, is that having transformed every inch of the land she currently owns into a gardener’s oasis, she now wants more land to extend the garden – which she is having difficulty in obtaining.
