“Fascinating example of an old fort”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

Do this trip alongside Calanish Stones, the Black House museum, and a visit to Port of Ness. The Broch is accessible and full of history. It is very photographic and there are great views. The little museum is also very welcoming.

“Carloway Broch--steep”
Reviewed June 1, 2013

I found this too steep to climb, but it's still worth visiting to take the photos from the gate, and two women older than me made it up easily. So go for it, it is worth it for the views and history The roads to and from are very scenic.

“Good siting”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

The visitor center gives a good idea about how it was back in the time the Broch would have been used to live in, from the broch the viewing of the location is excellent.

“Please stop off…”
Reviewed May 24, 2013

Whatever word you want use to describe it: fort, sort of castle, stronghold, and whether you are into history or not, you must be aware that by not stopping you will miss one of the finest (best one is located far away in Shetland called “Mousa”) and rare (try to find a single one south of Scotland) example of a broch.
Given the time those massive constructions were built; think of the Hadrian’s Wall, would you not stop to have a look having a chance?
Short stroll from the parking, and there is a small gift shop with info/toilets too.
It is free to see the Broch.

In my opinion it is a "must see" attraction while in this neck of the woods.
Please stop off…

“Very good”

Well worth going to as it's a great example of a broch and in a stunning location. It has a nice little exhibition next to it as well.
