“Nice museum and a great cafe”
Reviewed July 10, 2012 via mobile

You get a good sense of how island life was and the cafe make a great herring salad. The village is in a beautiful bay with plenty of photo ops.

“a bit of old world”
Reviewed July 8, 2012

It was interesting to see how people lived in the olden days, but house was a little bit more commercial and not 100% authentic

“Hugely interesting”
Reviewed June 18, 2012

Well it wasn't overpriced when we went and I'm tempted to write a whole separate review for the cafe food which was of excellent quality. The village is a must as an insight into how the islanders lived – and until very recently, 1974 being the last. The loom demonstrations and the peat digging really put you back in time. The black houses are decorated so as to feel as if someone was still living there; with the smell of the peat fire and no outside light it must have made for robust residents. And some black houses are available to rent! Makes you wonder what the people complaining were expecting? Rollercoasters?

“Spectacular Spot”
Reviewed June 15, 2012

A great insight into life in a historical village. It has a fully operational tweed loom demonstrated on site...though the operator should cheer up! This would be a great place to stay. The only negative was the very expensive food and drink...very nice though in the cafe.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed June 12, 2012

Expectations were high that we would visit something of interest with lots about the history. It really had nothing, was disappointing and was over priced.
