“Smoky - a real insight to life as it would have been”

The peat fire had just been lit in the centre of the house. This really showed how people would have need to manage heating the house so you could still breathe. Really interesting inside and across the road is another house without a roof. Very well maintained.

Very atmospheric, authentic and interesting. Loved the peat fire in the middle of the room - incredible

In my opinion , compared to other things on the island, this is hugely overpriced.
It is interesting, no doubt about that, but so is The Blackhouse Village at half the price with a lot more to look at.
It is only £4.50 which is not a lot to pay for things on the mainland but on the islands it must be one of the most expensive attractions there is.

This is a superb historical site and MUST be visited while on the Isle of Lewis. This particular Blackhouse was occupied until 1966 and has been beautifully preserved to show how life was like just 47 years ago. Be prepared to smell of peat smoke though for a few days afterwards!

Enjoyed seeing the way people lived on the island, what the houses were like and seeing Harris tweed being woven.
