Lovely clean comfortable restaurant with fantastic views over Uig sands. A great menu with changing daily specials. The quality of the food was superb and beautifully prepared and presented. Highly recommended - and recommend staying at the Auberge too.

“Magret de Canard”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

I booked an overnight stay in the auberge and also a table in the restaurant.

We opted for the 3 course menu which had a great number of choices.

The food was presented well and cooked to perfection. Richard was a very attentive host as well as chef. Our evening went quickly coupled with excellent wine, great hosts and plenty of friendly banter

The only slight downside to an otherwise fantastic evening was the windows which afford excellent views of the surrounding are but had a mist / dust / sand coating probably caused by high winds. This obscured the view slightly.

“Spectacular food in a spectacular setting.”

Must be one of the best restaurants in Scotland. Fantastic food from a French chef overlooking a spectacular beach. Good wine list too.

“Fantastic vegetarian meal”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

Good vegetarian food is hard to come by in the Hebrides, and as the menu in Auberge is predominantly meat and fish, we weren't sure quite what to expect here, but we were staying nearby and decided to give the restaurant a go as we'd heard good things.

Suffice to say we needn't have worried, it was fantastic.

The dishes were all beautifully hand-crafted with local, seasonal ingredients. I expect that on another night we'd have had something completely different (and equally great), but look out for the smoked beetroot and the vegetarian gateaux!

What really impressed me was the finesse and lightness of touch of the cooking. My experience is that vegetarian options in the better non-vegetarian restaurants can often be very nice, but very rich - with too much dairy used in an attempt to produce something luxurious (or somehow make up for a perceived lack of meat). Richard's cooking wasn't like that at all - the food was beautifully subtle, with complex flavours. Not spartan, and plenty of it, but never overwhelming. Even the Chocolate Guinness cake (mmmm) somehow managed to be both fantastically indulgent and still light.

My only request would be for more than one vegetarian main dish on the menu, so that a vegetarian couple can get to choose different things and sample each other's food. In our case though we asked for one of the starters as a main to get round that problem, and they were happy to oblige.

All in all, a great meal, friendly staff and a lovely setting. Next time we'll stay over...
