Rooms ok. Friendly staff. The parking is down 2 flights of stairs into a flat shopping car park. Breakfast was continental, cereals, cooked - limited to sausages, beans and scrambled eggs. Twin beds - when I booked a double bed.

Hi RoverPete

Thank you for your feedback on the stay that you had with us when you were up for the Tattoo - not managed to get over to it for a while myself but it always looks good.

With regards to the twin room being given when you booked a double, I am sorry that you were inconvenienced by this. Often, this issue occurs due to websites selling a standard room rather than a double or twin room and without information on your own reservation, I am unsure if this was the reason or not. Naturally, we always do try to provide what the guest is looking for, however, there is only a finite number of double and twin rooms available, and hence we may not have any of the type that is desired left free - our tip about this it to reserve the specific room type that is desired. Do feel free to get in touch if you wish me to look into your details for your own booking with us.

It was good of you to highlight the staff as being friendly, this is indeed our aim and it is nice when we are able to read back comments such as yours.

The holiday in express Hamilton is located on too of a shopping center next to a busy roundabout. The room was ok and generally comfortable but not on par with other holiday inns I have been too. As another reviewer mentioned there is no dedicated hotel parking and you have to park in the shopping center. One thing we were annoyed about is that although we were told that free wifi Internet is available in the hotel, this is true only for the lobby and not in the rooms. This meant that the lobby was crowded with people with laptops and iPads trying to get to their emails.

Overall the hotel is ok but I expected more from holiday inn express after being in other hotels from their chain.

Hi Mogli43

Thank you for choosing to stay with us during your tour of Scotland this month and for giving us your feedback on that stay.

We will hopefully have some news shortly about having WiFi throughout the whole hotel, in addition to the free WiFi that is in the public areas - I am not sure who said that we already have it throughout the whole hotel, but happy to take it up with a website if it is giving out inaccurate information - you can email me to "gm dot hamilton at holidayinnexpress.org.uk"

Thanks again for your time,

No fault with the rooms and the staff were friendly and accommodating. However, the car parking is misleading. There is no car park. You can park in the adjacent retail park without charge but it's not exactly convenient. The council car park opposite the hotel presents a better opportunity and is free between 7.30 pm and 7.30 am.

There are plenty of nearby eateries and the hotel will assist if you want to phone for a takeaway. But that's it. They even have to unlock the sweetie machine and serve you themselves. It's not even coin operated!

But the biggest let down is the breakfast. HIE layouts tend to be pretty standard. This one isn't. It's way too small for the number of rooms and it's understaffed. As others have said, if you get a table you have to clean it yourself. One end of the ground floor is laid out with lots of internet/wifi facilities for relatively low usage. Whereas most of the breakfast offering is served out of a tiny room which is always dangerously congested. One reason people buy the HIE brand is for the "free" breakfast! You need more tables and a more functional layout. And some staff!

Stayed here because, on our frequent runs north, the one slightly further up the A74 has uninspiring dining facilities. Thought we'd give this one a go. And tried it twice in three days. I don't think we'll be back. But well done to the staff for trying hard.

Hi Mike

Thank you for giving us your feedback on your recent time with us, and for your kind remarks about our service and rooms.

In regards to the points you raise, the reason that we refer to the adjacent retail car park is that it is always free to our guests - all they have to do is enter the details on the touchscreen - and it also allows for access to the hotel without having to cross the road via either the stairs or the pedestrian ramp.

From looking at your comments, it says that you stayed this month, however, I am not sure at what point in the month. We were aware that the breakfast area was very busy this month with the high volume of guests that stayed with us, and as such, we made some alterations to the breakfast service, in particular to give more service space to our guests. The feedback so far is that this was an improvement and myself, and the rest of the team, will see how we can build this into planning for future very busy dates. Some things are fixed in terms of the layout, but I am always open to suggestions to do things better!

The whole team did work hard this month ( not just in this month of course ) and I am keen to recognise that, and see how we can all work smarter as well, so thank you for your input on your stays.

I do hope that we will be able to see you on another of your trips and that you will find all aspects of the hotel as good as the team!

Regards

given a smoking room that was horrible as I don't smoke, it seems most rooms on the 4th floor are fag ash stinking rooms, the breakfast is limited to beans, sausage, scrambled egg, toast croissants and cereals, it's a buffet and was manic as a few coach parties there when we were.
The rooms are basic with a rubbish TV, no wifi in rooms, and wired is expensive.
Free wifi in lobby and bar.
Handy for shops and restaurants, but just bland and nothing special, would be fine for a stopover, but we were on business for a week.
Oh And no private parking for hotel, you park in the shopping car park that had a 4 hour max.
And put your details in to a screen on the reception desk, which should tell euro car parks you are a resident.

Room Tip: make sure you specify a non smoking room if you don't smoke.

Hi Faderman

Thank you for the feedback following your recent stay with us.

I am unsure of your reservation details with regards to the type of room that you reserved, however, as I have stated elsewhere today, I shall look into the hotel having smoking rooms as this is causing our guests more issues than it is solving! There are measures in place to have every room clean and fresh, but these do not appear to have worked for yourself.

The car parking arrangements are something which we are happy to share with everyone, although sometimes websites can truncate all of the information, so I will share them here for other guests. As you rightly say, the hotel does not have its own private car park, however, guests are able to use the adjacent car park which we share with a retail park and the cinema. To get free parking, guests just have to enter their car registration number on the touchscreen terminal at reception.

WiFi is free in the public areas as you say, and we are currently looking at what is involved in getting this WiFi throughout the whole hotel!

Thank you for your time and hopefully we shall be able to connect better with you on your next stay, as we do aim to provide some warm, caring and attentive service to all of our guests.

Regards

This is a modern, well kept hotel situated outside Glasgow (about 20-30 minutes drive) and close to Edinburgh (40 minutes). It has new, large rooms with all the amenities, free wifi in the lobby, spacious dining area and a helpful staff. You get what you pay for here. Breakfast was nourishing with a more than adequate choice of foods and drinks. One problem endemic to all of England is their coffee. If you can, bring your own :-). Another problem was the mattress, mine sagged a bit but can't say if this was the case for the entire hotel. You do get a choice of soft or firm pillows though.

Thank you Zgersti for the feedback that you have given following your recent stay with us. It is good to know that you found the hotel's location and condition to be to your liking, especially as it is quite hard to change our location!

You refer to the "new, large rooms" and I will pass this on to my housekeeper Jackie, as the hotel is now over 6 years old, so for you to describe it as new is indeed a compliment.

The breakfast coffee machine is being changed shortly, so hopefully this will improve the taste of your morning brew! The choice of items at breakfast is indeed quite wide and I am glad that you found it to be more than adequate.

Regards

Mark

This modern, clean hotel is a great choice for travellers and its rooms seemed clean and well appointed. However, room 419 was very smokey despite my request at booking. Staff seemed nonplussed about my request for a different room.
By the way, breakfast is included but its very low quality ingredients. Do yourself a favour and walk round to frankie and bennies (100yds) and get an excellent breakfast for a fiver!

Hi Nick

Thanks for taking the time to leave some feedback on your stay with us earlier this year.

I am sorry that you found the team on the desk not too empathetic with your room type request, we should always show care and consideration, so my apologies for that. The issue of the hotel having smoking rooms is something that appears more and more to be a source for inconvenience for many of our guests and I revisit our approach. Often a standard room is booked with a request for a non smoking room, however, it can be the case that all of the non smoking rooms have already been sold.

Our inclusive breakfast is something that we continually look at, in order to improve all aspects of it from the products used to the service practicalities, and I will include your feedback amongst our review materials. I notice that your comments have changed since May with regards to the breakfast, and I would be delighted to get some more detailed feedback on the reasons behind this.

Once again, thank you for your input,

Regards

Mark

I booked a room here to save having to get a taxi home after a function in the Hamilton palace, this place was old and not that clean, i would rather get a taxi next time. I would not recommend this hotel.

Thank you for the review that you have posted this week about your stay with us back in September of last year.

I must admit to being very surprised to read you referring to the hotel as dated, as this is the opposite of what a number of our reviewers comment, as they talk of the hotel being newly built, modern, just opened. Whilst the hotel did open back in May 2007, through my housekeeper Jackie and her team, we have been able to maintain a fresh, appearance of the hotel.

In terms of cleanliness, this is obviously an area where we strive to score full marks, so I shall discuss this also with the housekeeper.
