“Unspoilt woodland walks, on the edge of suburbia”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2013

A lot of history about the very wealthy landowner The Duke of Hamilton, making a small hunting lodge in the image of Versaille, but the building and wooded areas all around the house are excellent for a leisurely paced walk with dogs or mountain bikes or anyone just wishing to take in the greenery and riverside footpaths. It's a regular haunt for many and plays hosts to several events throughout the year. Has a cafe, bird life centre and woodland talks from the centre staff.

“How the other half lived.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 22, 2012

A former Duke of Hamilton built this as his country estate/shooting lodge. Containing interesting walks where the founder hunted bear, wolves and wind boar. I hated the place when I was learning to walk again after shattering a heel bone but out every Sunday for more than a year I saw something different in nature and animal life.

“Well worth a visit.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2012

Very well run visitor centre and cafe.
Within easy reach by car,'bus, rail travel or a short walk from Hamilton town centre.
There are a variety of walks available from short wanders to lengthy hikes which you really need to be fit for.
It is a really nice setting which is well worth a visit at any season.
My own favourite is winter especially if snow has fallen or there is a heavy ground frost.

“Restored magnificence”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2012

The building is beautifully restored. A miniature Adam piece. A triumph because it all used to be derelict and abandoned. I know - I played there as a child.

Also a great country park with several fascinating walks. Now safe unlike when I was young. It was very dangerous.

“Duke of Hamilton Hunting Lodge”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2012

This lodge is part of the Duke of Hamilton's estate and is in the outskirts of Hamilton, served by buses, trains and accessible by car. The grounds are interesting with a childrens adventure playground, the ruins of Cadzow Castle and walks along the river, and views across Hamilton towards the Mausoleum (burial place of the Dukes of Hamilton)
