We stayed Fri 2nd to Mon 5th, On our arrival check in was immediate and the lady was very nice talking us through what was on and when. Eventually Got to the van it was away at the bottom of then park and initially thought yeah this is fine then I looked closer and found the carpet didn't fit was torn and kept on lifting, mirror and windows marked, dirt on the skirtings, blood on the legs of the dining stools, and the sitting area badly stained all over and sticky to the point it felt wet, sweet wrappers and hair grips etc under the cushions....we had to use sofa bed as my daughter who is 14 and very tall finds it impossible to sleep in the half sized single beds and took the double room.
The kitchen on closer inspection was also dirty kettle full of water, frezzer still had food remains, the oven was discusting every cup/glass was dirty as were the knives, forks, Pyrex dishes etc I scrubbed them all before use after a quick trip to tescos for cleaning products! Our outdoor light didn't work either, all the door handles worked the wrong way(you had to push them up to open and close) which is a fire hazard as the double rooms door open out on to the single room where the 6yr was and the handles kept getting caught in each other only allowing door to open a few inches, many times the kids were "locked" in.
I did report the handles, outdoor light and the general lack of cleanliness and was told that someone will be down to sort out but as it was end of season she couldn't advise when as all vans needed repaired.....no came!!
The entertainment was poor, prizes for the kids just awful, two prizes we did see was an empty tin of celebrations and a used clipboard! the teddy machines were never refilled, empty vending machines and shelves In the shops with absolutely no discount on the merchandise, on Sunday evening the shutters were down on the shops in the bars which left upset kids as no-one came round with balloons, flashy lights etc and we couldn't buy any. Kids looking forward to the outdoor fairground area only to discover after getting there that they were being dismantled!
Food in the mash n barrel overpriced and actually very poor quality, little ones ordered pizza yet it was the small frozen microwave ones that arrived on the plates that were so soggy my little on kept gagging on it.

When were packing up, loading up the car 3 cleaners arrived and sat at the van next door making it obvious they were waiting on us pointing at the board then at our van, as it was only 9.40am I thought I ain't leaving this van until 10am, they sat there puffing away glaring at us using foul language in the little conversation although they could clearly see the little one outside playing at the car!, when we did eventually leave they were all in there like a shot before we'd even drove away!! When up to mash n barrel for Breakfast yesterday morning and it was absolute joke 47 minutes it took for 2 5 item breakfast to arrive which were cold, staff in there extremely unhelpful and seemed to rush everyone out.
I have visited many times before but this time was by far the worst.... I doubt we will return.

I understand that it was the end of season.....but the staff made it clear they were unemployed and just couldn't give a ****!

Being fairly new to Ayr we usually take our kids here in the summer but don't stay as caravans are not our thing. We did try it a few years ago when we moved to Ayr but we like our comforts too much. Having said that we have returned every summer several times over with our kids spending hundreds of pounds on each visit on food, drinks, amusement rides for kids and so on, until this year when we where turned away at the gate by security. I asked the reason for this and his answer was that damage was being done to the place from outsiders not staying at the park. Sitting in a brand new Audi with a 2 and 3 year old i was rather irritated by this and where did we fit in to this claim ? all we have ever done is spend money in the place and let the kids have a nice time. Thought this was a very poor show so all through the summer we took our hard earned cash and spent it at Heads of Ayr, poor show Butlins and likely a loss of thousands of pounds from us over the summer. Yet again another company willing to turn away custom in hard times, when you go in to Administration, you only have yourselves to blame Butlins.

At check in we were greeted by Tegan who was lovely and managed to give me and my family an apartment instead of a caravan, unfortunately the apartment smelt very badly of smoke. As it was my nephews birthday the second day we arrived we decided to go out for a meal, when we arrived we discovered there was no room for us to eat and was very disappointed, we had a look around the facilities to see where else we could eat as there were no other restaurants we had to eat at Burger King!!!!
we had 3 nights at the park and not once anyone asked for a park pass.
On our last night everything shut very early, i am fully aware it was the last day of season but it was still our holiday and this spoilt myself and my Children's holiday.
I will not be returning to Craig Tara as my first experience was not a very good one.

As it was the ends of season I expected it to be cold but thought there would still be full services. It seemed that most of the shops were empty, half board food was very poor with tonnes of salt to give taste.
The park was lovely and would probably have been much better at the height of the season. And the half board has ended for good so thats no bad thing. The staff were all lovely and very helpful.

i was at with my partner and family this weekend Friday to Monday ( 2d Nov until 5th nov 2012)and the park was Craig Tara caravan park. We arrived about 5pm at the reception desk and were giving information about what was on etc and told were to find our caravan. So we made away to our caravan and it took ages to find it as there was not clear sign post’s as the light in the car park had been broken and we were even shocked that we had to use someone else path to reach our own caravan and the path was dirty and muddy and no light to guide us.

When first arriving at the caravan the location was bad as it just felt that the caravan had just been abandoned as you had to use someone else path to get to the caravan. The min we stepped inside the light cover from the kitchen light was on the floor, the gas cooker controls were missing two dials and the rest never turned correctly, & only one fire, The fridge was turned off and took along time to get cold, the windows inside were dirty and the toilet blind was broken so really that caravan should not have been let out to anyone. The caravan was really cold and i know its winter time but with 1 fire to heat a full caravan it’s just a joke. But my main problem was the light from our caravan to the carpark and for the safety of my family and i felt that the park failed on this.

The night we got there we did complain to the girl on the reception about the light been broken and she told us it would be fix. We were told that we would need our passes to entry the main complex but no one asked us all weekend as there was no guard on the front door so really anyone could have just walked in. You don’t get asked for ID at the bar and its dear cost me £6.50 for 1 pint and bottle of VK , When leaving the complex and heading back to our caravan and arriving in our carpark we noticed the light had still not been fixed and had to try and find our way to the caravan and i know it was the last weekend of the season but if myself or my family had fell then the caravan park would have been to blame due to us reporting the problem to the staff.

The next morning myself and my partner decided to go swimming as that is where she learned to swim back when she was young we arrived at the desk and the young lad sayed upstairs and thro double doors up we went and was good size changing room and a range of lockers £1 and you get it back. We had quick shower then went to the pool was quite shocked as it was warm and not many pools are but people are allowed to watch thro the glass at the main reception area ,when leaving we went for a shower and was shocked to see hardly any water coming from them, We overhead a couple complaining about tone of the changing rooms were sticking of pee put there was no staff to clean it up and a staff member had been spraying airfreshner to try and hide the smell people had been complaining about the showers and the staff member sayed that they knew there’s a problem but no signs were in place. When leaving the changing rooms i did notice that the cleaning rota had been blank so im not sure if the place had been cleaned. (really needs it)

we noticed on the Saturday night when coming from the entertainment i.e. firework display was excellent that the carpark light had still not been fixed and it was really dark and at this point i was really angry as anyone of us could have had an accident but we were lucky as one of us had a torch in the car. On the Sunday morning i went back to the reception desk to complain about the light again to be told that the crew had a long list to do but she would get it sorted at this point we were going home the next day and i know the problem would not get sorted as the staff did not look that bothered. You do have to watch as staff drive about in buggy type vehicles at some speed and transit vans with no side doors, We did see inside one of the security vans and the dash board had rubbish all over it..

We had dinner at the mash barrel ( the staff are friendly )but can get really busy and children have to be out for 10pm but the meal was good but pricey we also had breakfast on the Saturday morning waited 15mins tho and was shocked when it was £6.50 for 3 cans of juice and 1 up of hot chocolate. There is a wide range of puggies to keep the children happy as well and there was bongo wanga for the kids and the live lounge for shows.

We did see one of the shows called poker face and they had travelled a long way from England but do have to say that the women could not sing and was letting the guys down....

Room Tip: Try and get close to the complex

We arrived 29th October 4 nights. The caravan was clean but cold , we had the gas fire on continuously. Can only blame the weather , gale force winds and rain , did not help , plus the odd attack from the sea gulls.
This was the largest caravan site I have ever visited , I would say it is well laid out and the amenities were plentiful they included , 3 interlinked swimming pools, sports hall, Archery, Laser quest , a golf course simulator, large amusement arcade and many more.
Unfortunately due to the adverse weather and time of year all of the outdoor activates were mothballed .
There was plenty of choice for food ranging from a Chinese takeaway in the carpark to Pizza Takeaway , Burger King plus a restaurant in the main complex.
We chose to eat in the Mash and Barrel which was a bar / restaurant, the food was decent but a little expensive.
Kids spent a fortune in the amusements , while we watched the sky footie one night in the Mash & Barrel .

I would say this was a value for money holiday , down side was the lack of rubbish bins on the site , resulting in a fair amount of litter , this may have been down to the weather.
The sea gulls attacked at every opportunity to see what was inside your plastic bag so don’t leave rubbish unattended ;0)
Im sure I would have been more upbeat if the weather had not been so disastrous.

Room Tip: Try to stay away from the complex as it can be noisy in the evenings. We were in a premium Caravan...
