“Excellent staff and first class hotel”
Reviewed February 2, 2014

Stayed here on DBB basis. Was given as a gift. We were offered a half price upgrade costing £20, well worth it. Room was superb. Staff were all excellent, attentive and helpful even when extremely busy as a wedding was on. Food in restaurant was lovely. Would definitely recommend and would return.

We stayed in the Western House hotel when attending local race meeting. I can only say that the compliments showered on the staff at this hotel were very much warranted. Service was friendly and efficient and nothing seemed too much trouble to the young people employed. Rooms, dinner and breakfast for the price paid represented excellent value. I know where I will stay next time I visit Ayr.

We only stayed one night but the room was lovely. Large room, big comfortable bed with all the facilities you need. It struck that it was a very well kept hotel as even at this time of year much trouble has been taken on the gardens. Perfect position if you you enjoy horse racing. Didn't use the restaurant but had a fab burger from room service and breakfast was very good.

This a hotel with fantastic rooms(suites in main house are amazing),The food is the best we have tasted in 25years of going to restaurants, location and main areas are fabulous.staff cant do enough for you from reservation to departure and everything in between! The only negative is the choice of draught and bottled beers. This is a Traditional Scottish Hotel with no Scottish Beers. If they were to address this it would be a perfect 10 for us.

We stayed here on a family trip and absolutely loved it. The breakfast was fantastic and very healthy. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were spacious. While we were visiting we saw 2 weddings take place, and although some areas of the hotel were blocked off, the facilities were still quiet and the employees were very nice and helpful. When we travel back to Scotland we will definitely stay here again.

We were appointed a room in the main hotel... and it was perfect!
NO noise that I was aware of.
Beautiful room... queen sized bed... dressing gown, slippers, bottled water... comp sweets... luxury toiletries... flat sceen tv with freeview... and even a speaker from the tv in the bathroom with on/off volume control! I kid you not!

Staff were all very polite and friendly, and every one we spoke to had worked there for a number of years! A very good sign.

On some stays, we have been hit with an ''allowance'' towards dinner... despite the a la carte menu having main courses costing up to £29.99 (sirloin steak), there were NO hidden costs or allowance limits here!

Three courses... just pay for additional sides if you want them! More than fair, especially given the quality of food!

Well... I say that... It's hard to put a number ''1 - 5'' on how I rated the food, because if it wasn't 5 (which it mostly was, then it was a 1).

How so?

I had the best sirloin I've tasted in years... cooked to perfection.
Salt-Marsh lamb which was succulent and again cooked to perfection.
Belly Pork... with a crisp crackling... great.

As a starter, I had the best salade nicoise I've ever tasted, and a number of other memorable dishes.

The chefs habit of supplying a wee Amuse Bouche each evening was also a lovely touch!

One night though, my rib-eye came RAW through the majority of it! I like medium rare... can eat rare... this needed longer in the grill to qualify as 'blue'! Easily remedied and not a major problem... however...

the following night, I re-ordered the salade nicoise, having loved the first one so much. Definately a different chef... different ingredients and totally different presentation... but alarmingly, the tuna steal was raw most of the way through! For me, with fish, that is an absolute no-no!

I did send it back and they didn't just grill the tuna, they recreated the whole dish... so any complaint I had was effectively dealt with... I was just disappointed that with every other dish being so wonderful, such basic errors could undermine the good work!

I would definately go back to the hotel, and would definately dine in the restaurant again.

This was the best quality hotel we have stayed in for a long time... booked to return!!!

Room Tip: Main building room was fantastic.
