We attended wedding here last week and the hotel was amazing, knew as soon as served coffee in lounge on arrival that was going to be good as several little touches when youbjust know they go the extra and as day went on just got better and better, we stayed over and the rooms were brilliant, lots of little extra touches, staff very friendly and food excellent. Wedding ceremony outside and beautiful day in very well kept gardens would certainly love to go back for a weekend

I have been at 2 weedings in this hotel in the past 2 months. The first one the whole day was here form the ceremony onwards, the wedding took place outside in the sunshine and it was absolutely gorgeous. There was about 60 people at the meal and more for the reception.
The second wedding the ceremony was held in Glasgow and we travelled to the Western House for the meal and reception. This time were were inside the whole time due to the Scottish weather which was not as kind as the first one.

On both occasions the food was delicious, that sorbet wow what can I say it was awesome. I had the chicken both times, different varieties and they were both lovely. The starters and desserts great too - the vegetarian spring roll a real gem. The only thing that lets them down and I would have give 5 stars otherwise was the service. At check-in the staff were very efficient and friendly, really helpful 10 out of 10, however the waiting staff serving the food were not up to the same standard. I know at weddings it can be frantic, but having the list of what people have chosen to eat then asking them and referring to the list then looking back to you as if you were lying was not a great start - the staff all looked uninterested and like they didn't want to be there.

Enough of the negatives, the second time I stayed overnight. We were allocated a room in the courtyard and at first thought geat been shown the Ferarri and sold the Mini, but the rooms were lovely really spacious and the bed so comfortable. The furniture and fittings were lovely and the bathroom well stocked too - it was internal and had no window.

The breakfast in the morning was another let down, as was the service, but the banter amongst the weary hungover guests more than made up for it. They set aside a seperate room for everyone from the wedding to eat in which was a lovely touch, just a pity it took about 15 minutes to get served then 20 minutes until your breakfast arrived - it wasn't really worth the wait. After a night on the sauce and a hunger like a rabid dog I was fairly disappointed.

All of this didn't put me off, had an amazing time at both weddings and I would return back here, perhaps on a room only basis and retreat to McDonalds or Franke and Benny's for the post-night out feed.

We were visiting friends from Glasgow who took us there on a day trip. The view from the hotel is of the beautiful Ayr (grass) racecourse. We went there for lunch, and had a great bowl of Scotch broth - hardly a thin broth, but a thick barley concoction that makes a meal in itself. Well worth a visit for a stay or just a meal. We were taken on a tour of the rooms by the management, and they are all different from one another and charming.

Room Tip: Facing the racecourse

Visited the Western House Hotel In Ayr on Sunday for a wedding of a family member. The ceremony was conducted well and everything was done in the same hall. The Ceremony, meal and the dance at night. The meal at the wedding was ok but could have been improved as the haggis and pate had no taste, the beef was charcoaled and the ice cream was some out of Tesco's !!!. The bar was a little expensive as all of these places are. The staff was ok also but could be improved with a smile. They are very wise and kids have to watch was they are drinking not even a sip out of there mum or dads beer and the staff are right at you saying it is illegal ( just looking for an argument ). The room we had was a family suite in the main building which cost us over £200 for a night which the room was a good size but the big mirror behind the bed was thilthy and you could write your name on it. I was in 2 friends bedrooms in the court yard and they were a decent size and is cheaper than the main building. Breakfast in the morning was neither good or bad as the bacon, black pudding was too salty. Overall we enjoyed the stay but for this big fancy hotel it needs improvements in the main building.

Room Tip: The Court Yard rooms are a lot cheaper than the main building its self.

We stayed overnight here as we had an early flight back to France. Booking.com gave us an incorrect address so when we eventually arrived at the hotel I pointed this out to the reception staff who immediately informed the Reservations manager. Every member of staff we came into contact with was so helpful, charming and efficient. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant. The service was outstanding as was the food and wine. Our room in the Courtyard was very comfortable and we really appreciated all the little extras such as the shortbread. Personally, I would have welcomed a discreet little sign from the car park to the Reception.
I say well done to everyone who made our fleeting stay so enjoyable.
