I booked two nights here with the intention of it offering a bit of luxury as a treat for my mum after three nights in Glasgow's George Square Premier Inn. As it transpired the latter proved to be the superior by far. The Savoy Park staff were all very warm and welcoming but several issues disappointed us.
Firstly, there was no hotel information in the room (bar opening times, breakfast menu, etc) although we were indeed informed of the breakfast times on our arrival, and of dining times that evening. The room itself was very small but cosy and comfortable, but when I tried to use the shower attachment to wash my hair the only option was scalding hot or freezing cold water, so I gave up and just had a bath. To be fair, we didn't mention it to staff as doubted anything could be done with an old plumbing system.
When we went down to breakfast we were delighted by the gorgeous surroundings ( a huge positive) but were a bit surprised that the only menu on the table was a wine one! There was a hot buffet and eggs cooked to order (all nice) but it was only on the second morning that we discovered that a menu DID exist and that we should have been offfered kippers/ French toast etc on our first morning.
As it is clear that much of the price they charge is for the sumptuous lounge we decided to spend our last evening making the most of it, and really enjoyed reading by the fire on huge comfy sofas. We then had a lovely dinner and looked forward to spending another hour or two by the fire. We had just settled back by the fire when two members of staff came to inform us that they were here to take the couches as they had to clear the whole room for a wedding the next day!! While I totally understand that they needed to prepare, and they were quite apologetic, I did feel hugely disappointed and quite offended that they clearly view individual residents as unimportant compared to their big function guests. We paid £150 for two nights and it was not, I am afraid to say, money well spent (we enjoyed our time in Ayr but regretted our choice of hotel). The hotel is without a doubt a gorgeous venue for a wedding/function, but not worth the money for a normal stay.
