“Great place to stay”
Reviewed September 28, 2011

We stayed at Chalmers for a couple of nights when attending a wedding at Brig O Doon. Graeme and Ann kindly had our room available for an early check in so we could get ready. The room was very clean and beds comfortable. Chalmers is well located - a 5 minute stroll into town and a £5 taxi ride to Brig O Doon.

Myself and my partner were delighted with the warm welcome received from Graeme and Ann at Chalmers B&B. The property is delightful and the service exceptional, as nothing seemed too much trouble for them! The location is ideal for travelling around Scotland, and the proprietors were happy to help us organise many excursions and to make recommendations for our trips. We look forward to returning to Scotland in 2012, and will definitely be booking Chalmers early to avoid disappointment!

From a golfing point of view our stay was poor due to heavy rain and strong winds (up to 70 m/h some days) from the Atlantic.
Rooms simple but OK, beds clean, no living room to sit and chat, breakfast alright, Graeme´s organizing bookings on golf courses, suggestions of restaurants and pubs to visit excellent.
The Ayrshire District can offer a wide range of golf courses that should suit any taste, good transportation facilities. And of course the nearness to Glasgow and Highlands shopping, whiskey testing asf.

To sum it up: Nice atmosphere, a variety of opportunities made possible by service and hospitality.

Thank you Benny for posting a review.

Yes the weather was not on your side (Mother nature is definately not a Golfer !) but you all said you had a great weeks golf in any case as you managed to play every day for 6 days for a special rate of £85.

Thank you also for your positive comments re the organisation of the golf, transport and B&B facilities. We thoroughly enjoyed organising the golf package which we believe was excellent value including accommodation for your golf party, taxi arrangements for the week and a healthy continental breakfast of your choice. Thanks again, Graeme & Ann

I and my friends never got to stay at the B&B because we had to cancel our golf trip from the USA. So, no comment on the actual facility. But Graeme organized our golf, persevering through our many changes and inquiries. He offered to book our rental cars, visited golf courses to make arrangements, made payments and even arranged refunds from the golf courses. Couldn't have been more helpful. If we manage to organize our Scotland golf trip again we shall certainly book at Chalmers B&B.

Thank you so much for you comments. It is such a pity your trip was curtailed by the bad weather affecting your flight to Scotland. I was very thankful to Kilmarnock Barassie, Dundonald Links and Glasgow Gailes Golf Clubs for their understanding of your predicament and their offer of refunds for the Golf cancellations. Thanks again, Graeme

I have stayed here numerous nights and intend to continue staying through my university course. Both Graeme and Ann are lovely people who make you feel really welcome and are happy to help you as much as they can. As I was new to the area they offered me advice on numerous places to eat as well as advice on how to get to my university. I also needed to stay an extra night and although they were fully booked they kindly arranged for me to stay at a neighbouring BnB. The room is very nice with a homely feel to it. It is located in a quiet area making it easy to get a good nights sleep. Although it is only 10 minutes to get into town which is very useful. I would recommend staying here for visitors to Ayr :D

When we arrived at the property, we were impressed with the introduction of 2 rooms by the lady. The property is nice and clean with the exception of very low water pressure for basin taps and shower. On the 2nd day after we got back from a day out, the owner blamed me for loose basin taps which was not tightened by the plumber. I argued with him. We understand no cooked breakfast offered but owner had charged us extra for cheese and ham which we did not asked for but he put it on the table and we ate it. Please take my word.......don't book it. It said B&B but it not, you pay extra for breaky.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review following your recent stay at our B&B. May we first of all clarify the situation regarding your comments about the tap. In order to understand the fault we asked you for your opinion on why the tap was slack and why it had turned 90 degrees as the room and shower room were in perfect condition before you arrived. We wanted to know if you knew why the tap was also broken from its seal after your first nights stay.

Regarding your comments about paying extra for breakfast. We believe your comments to be incorrect. Your group organiser booked "room only" through Laterooms. As an offer of hospitality, on your first morning, we provided 7 b/fasts completely free to your party. (normal cost 7*4=£28). During the first morning b/fast, a few of your group requested extra food including ham, cheeses, toasts, bread etc etc etc. Normally requesting additionalt food is never a problem and is always accommodated for our guests.

However, as you had booked room only, we felt it was justified to speak to your group organiser to discuss this additional requirement. It was agreed with your group organiser that a nominal charge of £2 would cover this requirment. (normally £4 per b/fast) Your group organiser confirmed he would advise your group about this arrangement and he was happy with it as he understood the situation re room only.

Additionally, in terms of hospitality and value for money, we provided b/fast 1 hour before the normal b/fast time so that your group could attend your bowling tournament, we filled a flask each morning with fresh coffee and we upgraded 2 rooms to en-suite rooms superior rooms at no extra charge at all. We provided 7 free b/fast the first morning and charged half the normal price for the following 2 mornings. I hope this information is helpful and clarifies the points you have made in your review. Graeme & Ann

Staying in Chalmers was really great and its location is very accessible to Ayr train station as well as the seaside. I'm glad to be the first Sporean to give a thumbs up to this B&B with the owners being very receptive. It was really nice of Graeme offered a complimentary takeaway breakfast in the early morning when i departed. Room is clean and free wifi provided. Excellent stay. =)
