With seating and tables available outside, this is a great stop-off point when out walking dogs etc. The food is good, anad if you go inside, the designer chairs in the dining room are worth a second look.

Nothing special, but nothing bad either. Food was just OK and bar crowd was friendly. Decor was nice but the menu could do with being freshened up.

We visited Stair Inn on a Wednesday night. Set in a scenic spot when you enter the bar is lovely and warm with an open fire which is kept well stoked. The bar area has the most beautiful furniture (i cook have taken it home) which adds to the atmosphere.

We hadn't booked but this was not a problem. There were a few other in the bar but no-one else eating. We choose the table closest to the fire as it was a little chilly and i have to say this was the best choice!

The menu is not extensive but there is plenty choice for all. I was astonished to see that all main courses are priced at £10. Although some would fell this is value for money how can a steak be the same price as a gammon steak or haddock. Its simply not possible. I think this needs to be reviewed.

Onto the food. We both had the Cajun Battered Mushrooms with Garlic Mayo - these were lovely and they were well presented on the plate with a lovely side salad. For mains i had scampi and my friends had breaded haddock goujons. Again both were well presented with salad, tartar sauce and chips. Everything was well cooked but they chips were a bit of a hit or miss. Some were overcooked, some were under-cooked and they weren't the best chips i have ever tasted. Other than that no complaints.

We were both so full there was no room for pudding but the choices again looked good.

I would return to Stair but i am not keen to pay £10 a main course!

Busy buzzing place lovely warm seating area with in the Bar . Fantastic atmosphere even if a little noisy to begin with . Seats much more comfortable than the dinning room chairs . Was glad we managed to get into the Bar . Lovely food nicely presented warm and served with a smile . When they got busier service was a wee bit slower but we were not in a hurry to get anywhere so fine .

This is a lovely country inn that offers excellent home-cooked food, real ale and accommodation if you wish.

The chef/patron specialises in smoked fish from his own smoke-house and produces home made pies with a variety of tasty fillings. All his ingredients are locally sourced.

On our most recent visit, we enjoyed a Christmas meal of 3 courses for a very reasonable £20.00. The ales are normally from Houston or Kelburn breweries and are well looked after.

The décor is bright and contemporary with a cottagey appeal and in winter a blazing log fire provides welcome warmth. We have eaten and enjoyed a drink here on numerous occasions and as we live locally have not used any of the 6 rooms that are available for accommodation.

Stair Inn cannot be accessed by public transport.
