I was very excited when I entered the hotel,as the carpet was my family tartan. The room was very clean and the service was great. The breakfast and the 2 dinners we had on our tour were exceptional!! We has excellent service in any area, the dining room, the Boothy Bar was fun and the food was great. We were treated very well during our stay.

Wonderful old fashioned hotel with great style and sense of tradition. A bit faded at the edges but Scottish through and through. Could do with a bit of updating so long as the character is kept but comfy beds, clean well decorated rooms and very friendly staff. Good value for money

The building from the outside looks nice but the rest doesn't live up to the expectations.
The deco is dated giving the impression of lack of cleanliness. Our bathroom was stinky and tiny. It featured a very dusty extractor fan and black mould on the grout. The shower itself lacked water pressure and it was difficult to regulate the temperature.
The breakfast was generous but the quality of the food was poor, in particular the bacon was very salty, however the coffee was good. On top of all that the staff weren't very friendly or professional, so considering our room was £95 per night we think this place is really bad value for money and a hotel to avoid.

it looks superb from the outside but that is it.we were given a room on the top floor and we had to carry our own cases up and nobody asked if we wanted help.the room was tiny and was very dated.we ate in the boothy bar which is ok but not stunning and we then tried to get a drink in the residents bar as people wanted our table to eat.it took 10 minutes to get a member of staff to serve us even though there were by now 3 couples needing a drink.the member of staff needs to lose her job as she was so slow and then when she was asked for alocal whisky of the area by a Dutch man she couldnt say what one was and so then went to find someone which took 5 minutes. We even knew it was Eradour !!!!.i would say staff training for some is lacking.the 2 girls from New Zealand were superb as was the older lady in the Boothy Bar who seemed to want to do well but the lady with pigtails!!!!breakfast was very slow and they forgot to order my porridge one day so i had breakfast in reverse.they seemed to bother more with those who ate in the dining room on the night at breakfast the next day but we had spent as much.we got 1 night free having paid for 2 but it is still expensive compared with other places we visited in our travels.they seem to think they are a grand hotel but are not.i am also concerned that one of the AA boards on the outside says they have 2 stars and 1 says they have 3 stars.

While I am a fan of some rustic Scottish charm, I think this hotel is being far too generous with the use of that description. Dated, poor quality and bad food – overall it was not impressive. This is also not in Pitlochry so don’t book this if you expect to be close to Pitclochry. It’s about 8 miles away and is a better base than Blair Atholl.

Our room (302) was in the eaves of the hotel. If you are unable to walk comfortable up many stairs, ask for a room on another floor, if you have to stay here at all. The ceiling was very low, with a very small window to the side of the room, which made us feel a little claustrophobic. While we weren’t there to spend much time in our room, we still expect it to be of a certain comfort and we found this lacking.

The tartan bedding and the canopy over the bed were dated. Wallpaper was also coming off the walls. The tv was tiny and only had three channels. Again, while we weren’t there for tv, it is nice to have something for relaxation. The walls are also paper-thin so we could hear our neighbours very easily, even though they were quiet.

The bathroom was very old and dated. As others have mentioned, the shower pressure is non-existent and the shower makes a very loud noise when it is on. The towels were also threadbare.

The baronial dining room is pleasant, however, it is disappointing that the chef has no idea how to cook a good breakfast. The service was also poor, with the staff forgetting to serve us or to even put on the order. When it arrived, the eggs were solid, and the mushrooms were soaked in butter.

Dinner in the bar was more pleasant and it had a nice atmosphere. This is unfortunately the only positive we can give. Reception was uninterested when we gave them our comments and I would not recommend a stay here. Go to Pitlochry instead.

After a truly horrible first half of 2010, losing my mother to cancer in April, my wife and I were hoping to receive two days relaxing peace and quiet. We booked ourselves for two days into their Honeymoon suite, which was a disaster from beginning to end. Apparently, the Hotel knew about the faults to their jacuzzi, which was part of our room yet we were never informed. Instead, we had to discover this ourselves, prompting me to complain. The hotel manager, spilling a load of meaningless rubbish about hotel issues - including leaks to their roof, as if offering this as an excuse for their poor accommodation. To be fair, we were offered to stay for dinner (presumably on the house) but our stay was totally ruined and our trip (from Edinburgh) a complete waste of time. Suffice to say, we did not accept their offer of a meal, instead choosing a meal from a local "Fish'n Chips" van, which was delicious!

We left, ahead of our two-day stay, afer spending only one night here. To be brazenly honest, I found the hotel lacking any genuine sense of apology, and their words seemed hollow to me. They still charged us £80 for the room, which was a token reduction based on my complaint. This (to me) only served to confirm their unashamedly poor sense of empathy to their customer, and upon handing the money over I told them "Your room isn't even worth half of this," concluding that their hoteal was a "disgrace".

Would I recommend this Hotel to anyone? NO CHANCE!

We somehow end up here once every couple of years. Great old hotel with warm atmosphere and relaxed Scottish charm. It's an old building so the corridors are a little bit of a rabbit warren but the rooms are comfy and cozy with nice tartan curtains and beds. Older bathrooms with a bath and shower which mad a nice change after a long day of hill walking.

The food is very good and we enjoyed the relaxed approach - sit in the lounge, review menu and order over a drink. You are then called though to the dinning room when the starter is ready for you. The dinning room itself is the huge Baronial Hall, definately one of the most interesting rooms I've ever had dinner in. The bothy bar is great too.

Overall - highly recommended, we'll be back.
