Atholl Arms Hotel
Ranked #10 of 18 Hotels in Pitlochry

I had the pleasure of staying at the Atholl Arms Hotel, close to both the Blair Atholl castle and railway station for four nights. My room had good views of the nearest hills through large window. It was airy and light with comfy double bed, lots of room a large bathroom in perfect order.
Breakfast is taken in the baronial dinning room which could be nowhere else but Scotland and I don't just mean because of the Tartern which therms the decor every where. There is a vast breakfast menu with the cooked Scottish breakfast becoming a new favourite. The black pudding is probably the best I have found any where.
For lunch on Sunday the Bothy Bar offers a first class carvary washed down with a pint of local Braveheart real ale.
Evening meal in the main dining room feature local produce such as wild Haggis, salmon and venison, presented in many delicious recipes. Manly portion sizes. A great place to stay.

On our recent 2 day break in the hotel down the road we popped in here several times for something to eat or drink. The food was excellent every time, the service very good and the bar area is a really nice cosy place to have a drink or a meal if a wee bit dark in places. But it's got old fashioned traditional flair and wouldn't have the same charm if it was all lit up.

We had a voucher which included afternoon tea. We enjoyed this out in the garden in the sunshine. It was all delicious. Our room was a bit overwhelming with much tartan, but spotlessly clean and we grew strangely fond of the tartan! The building is Scottish baronial and very close to the station but the trains did not disturb us at all. Very comfortable bed and a great night's sleep. We visited the theatre in Pitlochry in the evening....just a few miles away. Hotel staff were helpful and friendly and very efficient. Delicious breakfast with lots of choice. Oh, also had a wonderful manicure and pedicure at the nearby Spa Uniq. This hotel has so much to offer and is in the heart of the bonniest part of Scotland!

Ate here on several occasions in July, menu was excellent, staff good and helpful.

Sadly one lovely evening we wanted to eat out in the garden but because of two or three irresponsible sets of parents who let their kids play football in the gardens and on the tables we couldn't, so just needs some management presence to coach the parents! We are a family but certainly don't want footballs bouncing off our food and tables!

There was no meal that wasn't good and the car very on Sunday was delicious .

Will certainly go back.

I visited this hotel on three occasions while staying in the area - using the bar area with our party of four for drinks and a meal. We found the locally brewed beer fluctuated wildly in quality - from very good on our first visit to really awful on two subsequent visits - and this applied to more than one cask ale we tried.
But worse was to come. Our trip coincided with the final week of the WorId Cup and I decided to follow the advice of a big sign at the Atholl Arms that declared "Watch the World Cup Here!"
I watched the first semi final (safely drinking Guinness) without mishap as it ended in normal time.
The second semi between Holland and Argentina ended after extra time - but for me and two Dutch guys who were seated at the same table - it ended 15 minutes earlier.
Last orders at the bar were announced before 11pm so I stocked up with a pint to take me through extra time and penalties if necessary. Extra time began at 11ish and then, horror - a member of the bar staff told us to drink up because they were closing.
I pointed out that there was 15 minutes left of the match but he just muttered something about licensing laws and told us to leave. At 11.15 - half time in extra time - he switched off the set!
The two Dutch guys were speechless. I was infuriated - pointing out that they advertised the place as a location to watch the football and that I'd been there since 8.30pm for this reason.
My parting shot was a suggestion that if Scotland wanted to be independent it had better improve the way it dealt with tourists.
I can only assume that the bar staff had finished their shift and wanted to go home. Fair enough but surely a place of that size has a night porter or someone on the premises to look after the residents - several of whom were also in the bar and had to leave. At least they could have seen the rest of the match in their rooms.
Quite frankly this episode was pathetic on several levels. It's quite a nice place, if somewhat gloomy in the bar, but they've let themselves down badly in my opinion.
Whatever happened to customer service and common sense?
