“good service, average accommodations”

If you need a relatively clean place to sleep and bathe, this is for you. The setting's beautiful, the food very good and the hotel lobby and restaurant are nicely furnished. As a side note, they've just opened the Bothy Pub off the regular dining area. The locals and staff are very friendly. Food's good too.
Rooms are average, service is great.

Room Tip: The room on the east side had a great view of a mountain. We opened the large window for air motion...

Stayed here for two nights in May. Lovely character hotel outside Pitlochry in a small village setting. We had a superior room (201) which was lovely but I agree with the previous reviewer in that you can clearly hear the people walking around in the room overhead. The food was good, plenty of it and served in an amazing baronial hall. Staff were helpful and the lounge area was very cosy. Overall we had a lovely stay.

Room Tip: Don't choose 201!

I really liked this place, it is definitely worth a visit for the character and ambience, yes it's a bit tired, the floorboards creak, the floors slope and the bath has sound effects when you flush the loo but the building has fantastic character as do the slightly dated rooms. The room we had was generously sized with plenty of storage, we were only here for a night so the tv didn't get used, we tried to use the phone but its seemingly for decorative purposes only!

Breakfast was a fantastic affair both for the great dining hall resplendent with stuffed critters, suits of armour and massive mirror and also for the amazing cooked Scottish breakfast, I've got to say its the best hotel breakfast I've ever eaten and the service was similarly superb, we were in a hurry but hopefully next time I visit I'll have time to savour a long breakfast with a newspaper.

Definitely a hotel I'd recommend, don't expect a crisp chintzy marbled city hotel but do expect to experience the unique character of this heritage hotel.

My husband and I stayed for one night on route to the Western Highlands. When we arrived we were greeted by a helpful member of staff and a roaring fire. Our room was small but had everything we wanted including nice decor and bedding and lot's of teabags (some hotels are a bit mean with their teabags....). The evening meal and breakfast were served in the baronial dining hall which is very historical and cosy with another roaring fire. For the price of £59 for the room we thought it great value for money as well as being a lovely place to stay.

It's always fascinating to see how different people guage a place. Personally speaking, my husband and I spent a great week up at 'The Atholl Arms' in Blair Atholl last month.
We have lost count of the number of times we have stayed there - we keep going back for more :-) because we love the hotel and the staff in it!! It is a great spot for going further afield on the train or by car .... or just step through the front door and go on one of the many nearby walks. The hotel was built in the 19th century and is full of character - this is part of its charm.

We stayed here for the second time over the may bank holiday with our border collie. There were lots of other dog owners staying and I would suggest if you hate dogs this might not be the hotel for you!

The staff couldn't do enough for us. I am a keen cyclist and the hotel has secure bike storage. The rooms are very tartan! And a little tired but the service more than makes up for that. The bothy bar is worth a visit as is the restaurant in the hotel itself.

Breakfast was plentiful and varied.

If you are going simply to visit the castle then this is fine, otherwise stay somewhere else. The decor is cliche highlands and slightly dirty at that. The food was poor, even by pub grub standards. And wifi is not available in the rooms, just the lobby. Having said that the staff was friendly and helpful and a warm cheery fire burned in the sitting area just outside the dining room.
