3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2012

Unfortunately the first sight that greeted us on arrival were some drunk guests and two massive urns at the entrance overflowing with cigarettes, fag packets, empty beer cans - delightful. The staff were friendly and helpful, but the rooms were not especially clean (one of us had dirty cups on the windowsill, and seriously need a makeover - the bathroom was dire. One pal suggested faded grandeur, but I thing just faded.
It's redeeming feature was the food. The bar meals are great although the menu is massive and needs cutting right back. And breakfast in that amazing room was great (although the porridge was rather watery). Very welcoming to cyclist which was a bonus. Not a bad experience but not very good either - somewhere in the middle. It could be a fantastic hotel though - a great setting and building - just needs some money pumped into it, some thought and attention to detail.

My huband and I and our friends had a fantastic time at the Athol Arms Hotel. It is a traditional Scotish hotel and the dining room is a must see. Staff are very helpful and cannot do enough for you. Rooms are very comfy and clean. Plenty of choice for dining and food was great. Will definately be back.

Glad you enjoyed our Scottish Baronial style and decor. Please come back and enjoy with the hugh fires roaring it creates an even better atmosphere.Winter deals are now in place 3 for 2 or 5 for 3.Anyone who has not heard of good old "Winston Churchill" is missing out on the best venison in Scotland.
Look forward to welcoming you to stay next time.

Had a romantic dinner at the Atholl Arms Hotel, a great choice. The dining room was amazing, in Scottish Baronial style and decor, minstrels gallery and huge fireplaces. Fires not lit this weekend, thanks to mini heatwave, but must be lovely the other 360 days of the year. Interesting menu, from fine gourmet options to traditional Scottish fare. Plenty of local produce in evidence, including delicious Winston Churchill's venison, which I can recommend. (I checked and yes Winston Churchill is the real name of a local farmer). Our meals were well prepared and presented, and the staff were professional.
We didn't stay at the hotel, so can't comment on the bedrooms, but if the public rooms are any guide I wouldn't hesitate to book to stay in the future.

Husband and I spent 2 nights it is a old hotel and a bit tired in places but this added to its charm
the real fiires where a plus. Breakfast was great served in the Impressive banqueting hall compleat with minstrels gallery and plenty of stuffed things which i found a bit scary we also had 2 very good meals in the Bothy bar great atmosphere yes it did get busy the 2 nights we were there but we never waited too long all the staff where great they work well together to make sure everyone gets severed . The room we had was at the top of the hotel if you dont like staires (no lift) ask for a room on the 1st or 2nd floor was kackered going up them staires the room was ok nice big bed
if you like very scottish decor you love this the bathroom and bedroom where spotless the only gripe was when you opened the door it banged off the bed side table there was no room for this if was me i would remove this from the room. we also paid a vist to ther other hotel The Moulin Inn we had a very nice afternoon meal. Also was very busy so it they must be doing something right would recommend both hotels for food & drink and also the Atholl Arms to stay.

Room Tip: lots of stairs no lift ask for a 1st ot 2nd floors

We look forward to welcoming you back to the Atholl Arms Hotel

We found the main Bothy Bar area a bit uncomfortable. Tables were mainly in booths for 6-8 people, with hard backed benches & several dining chairs for seating. There were various loose cushions availabe, but all in all a bit spartan. A table in the centre of the area had benches without back supports, they remained unused, even though both rooms were busy! The bar was quite traditional, this probably the reason for the seating styles. The prices were reasonable, & our meal was delivered promptly by a pleasant waitress. The battered fish was crisp & tasty, but the Steak pie was superb! Really tender meat with gravy that mother used to make. A nice crust topped it off. The chips were chunky & a bit dry, but still went down well. All in all a decent meal for a fair price.

Sorry you didn't find the Bothy Bar comfortable. We have tried to keep it very traditional and the booths were actually made from our original stables. If you prefer more comfortable dining please try our beautiful Barionial Dining Hall for dinner the next time.Looks like you chose our two best sellers Fish and Steak Pie glad you enjoyed your food and service.

My wife and i have just returned from a one night stay....and founf it GREAT.
As I read the reviews of others I cant help wondering if they are looking for "perfection" and look forward to having a gripe?! We were given a lovely welcome at this Family-run hotel and we too had the afternoon tea which we thought was extremely generous given the deal we were on. It was in fact, a little too much for us to finish. The sitting room with the open fire, the huge dinuing room (again with an open fire) were just beautiful and the staff so freindly and chatty; more than willing to explain some of the history of the place. We decided to eat in the Bothy bar and it was so popular that we had to wait at the bar with a drink until a table became available and then enjoyed a (huge) lovely bar meal. (Of course going to the local chippy would have been cheaper (as someone earlier pointed out) but what do you except!! Why not go to the local shop for a bacon butty and can of coke??)
All in all our short experience of the hotel was just great...no, not "perfect" but any small delail that was not perfect did not come close to detracting from this beautiful hotel in a most beautiful location. I think some Trip advisors should get real when they leave their (I think unfair) critical reviews and leave the chip on their shoulder at the local chippy where it belongs.

Our overnight stay was great value, and very comfotable, and we wished we had stayed longer. Really enjoyed our bar meal in a buzzing atmosphere and loved the roaring fires. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Great breakfast in impressive banqueting hall. Contemporary, boutique style it is not - but the hotel is clean, and steeped in historical features. The village and surrounding area is lovely. A relaxing visit - just what we needed.
