“Great Value for Money”
Reviewed April 2, 2010

We arrived at the hotel late on a Friday afternoon, were warmly greeted at reception and quickly and efficiently checked in and given the key to our room. We had upgraded our room online to a superior room, and were very glad we did. The room was lovely, very contemporary, large and airy. It had a seating area by the double windows, flatscreen TV, tea and coffee making facilities, which were replenished daily.

Breakfast, and dinner could not be faulted, the food was plentiful, well presented and very tasty. It is worth paying a little more for the steak which we found delicious.

On the Saturday evening we were entertained by Trisha, an excellent singer who sang a wide range of songs from 50's to current day. She also done a quiz which was good fun. We normally don't bother with hotel entertainment because it is not usually to our taste but I defy anyone to say they did not enjoy Trisha's singing.

The leisure facilities at this hotel are good too, the pool and jacuzzi are great and never too busy.

Pitlochry itself is looking a wee bit tired, there a a few empty shops now which is sad to see. We asked Mr Robertson who owns the whiskey shop (excellent deals on malt whiskey) and he said they are receiving the same number of visitors but that people are just not spending the money they used to. Just a sign of the times!

We really enjoyed our weekend to Pitlochry and would definitely return again in the future, we were lucky that the weather was really nice while we were there which really helps of course.

This is a Shearings hotel that is geared up to cater for a lot of people. This shows in the efficiancy of the staff, especially at meal times!
The food is tasty, but if you have a big appetitie the D,B&B option may leave you wanting more! The portions are small to average size, although there are three courses and i was never hungry by the end of the meal! Having said that the staff have no problem giving you extra if you ask.
We had to take the superior room as they were fully booked in the standard rooms. The room was spotless, well decorated and the bed very comfy. It was also extremely warm, we ended up switching the heating of and that was in when it was frosty outside.
We had a good look in at the standard rooms. They seemed to be a bit smaller and with rather colourful fabrics!
We have stayed at this hotel 5 years ago and its been refurbished since then. Its much improved!
The swimming pool is a decent size with lovely views out of large picture windows. A nice sauna & jacuzzi are there to.
We had entertainment every night execept the friday. One night was a bit cheesy, definately for the older guests!! But still a good laugh.
The "all inclusive" deal they have on midweek atm is brilliant value for money. I read one of the other reviews after we returned and we never got charged any extra despite the amount we drank!!!
And yes the restaurant manager does have a sense of humour!! And is also hard working and watches his staff like a hawk making sure everything gets done properly.
Must ask him what those hand signals mean though!
The town itself was very pleasant. Loads of walks direct from the hotel. Get a map from tourist info. Edradour distilary is only a couple of miles away, a lovely walk through the woods. They are charging everyone £5 entry now though, even just to go in the shop. But that is taken of any purchases you make.
All in all a very pleasant and relaxing break, looking forward to going again in 6 weeks with friends.

We had a five day break with Shearings at the beginning of February and when we arrived the Hotel was lovely and warm as was the welcome. This was our third visit in 12 months.

The room was ready, very clean and welcoming. The lounge/ bar area was warm and pleasant. There was a lounge in the reception area and this could be used if you did not wish to sit in the bar. We were 'all inclusive' and there were no problems whatsoever.

Frank, the dining room manager, was attentive as were his staff. At all times we were satisfied with the meals and service.

All the staff that we met were always trying to ensure we had a great stay and they succeeded. Don't forget your swimming togs, the pool is great, the whirlpool bath is popular, as is the sauna. Stacks of white fluffy towels, gratis, when you use the facilities.

Some of the comments are unfair. Of course you must make your own mind up. We have - were going back again later this year.

We complained about 2 rooms before upgrading to their so called 'superiour' room which was just as filthy as the other rooms, but had at least had a lick of paint in the last 5 years. They charged an unreasonable sum for the upgrade when we were checking out, which was not what we originally discussed when we checked in. Atrocious, would never come back!

I travelled here in Feb with my boyfriend and also friends. We had a fantastic time, really lovely reception staff when we first went in,we went to our rooms and it was old fashioned decor,it was large though and bathroom was huge! We upgraded to a superior room and it was much better. Decor was really nice, modern and still a huge room, with a big flat screen tv. With a bay window facing with a great view! The meal at night was really nice and served quick didnt have to wait long, again breakfast was lovely. The pool and sauna was really nice, being a hydro we thought it would have more but it was still really nice, and thought it was good towels were provided. Pitlochry is a really nice little town,we had great fun at night. The kingfisher bar and mckays are fantastic!! Had such a laugh, music was great! We took a trip to the fish laders in Pitlochry which was nice to see and also the house of bruar which was nice to say we have been.
We will deff book again, even if its older people that go we had a great weekend!!1 =)

Travelled with Shearings Coach holidays and stayed at Pitlochry Hydro Hotel for 4 night All Inclusive stay. Coach travel and driver were exceptionally good and the hotel surpassed all of my expectations - food was near perfect, service was very very good and the range of drinks available on All Inclusive tariff was very good also.
Would recommend this break to anyone who wants to get away for a pleasant short break at a very reasonable price - we will be returning in the future without any doubt - even if the snow was to be the same again!!!!

This is one in a chain of holiday hotels and is marketed as such offering 2-3 night weekend & longer mid-week breaks. Our rooms were the basic older rooms - the single was small but warm & comfortable with good facilities - the large double, also with good facilities, however had a rather lumpy mattress and a large inadequately heated bathroom (outside it was sub-zero). Lighting in the room could also have been brighter. Service from the hard working staff was excellent and note that (despite some reviews) the efficient restaurant manager does have a sense of humour. Food choice was limited but of good quality. Entertainment was perhaps not to everyone's taste but we found it enjoyable. The free bar for 3 hours on the Saturday night was an unexpected bonus (not available year round). Unfortunately we were unable to use the indoor pool that weekend as the boiler had developed a fault.
