“Pitlochry Hydro”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

This hotel has a fabulous setting and in a great little town that lacks nothing. Friendly staff who are the same year after year. Great town and fabulous theatre nearby that show world class actors in new and classic productions. It has a heated indoor pool wth views to the lower hills. It is superb walking and climbing facilities nearby and a rever full of fish/Salmon ladder. I could fill this page but the best way to see this place is to visit by car coach or train Trainstation in centre of town) and bus. It has many beautiful neighbouring towns and their scenery is breathtaking. come and see this place.

Room Tip: cheaper rooms have less of a view and upgraded are more comfortable but modern!

Hello there and thanks for taking the time to post a review. As ever, it is always pleasing to see our staff have been recognised for doing a great job and on this occasion our leisure facility has been highlighted as a positive too. It's a great facility and can make all the difference when having a short break with us.
Thanks Again

Maybe we were lucky in the fact we had a large bedroom with a bay window and a fantastic view, but we certainly enjoyed this hotel a lot.
Yes, the hotel is old, and yes, the decor may need updated but we have stayed in other Shearings hotels and this beats every one of them.
The main lounge area is huge but there are smaller lounge areas if you desire.
We only had breakfast so we can't comment on the lunch or evening meals, but we can say that the breakfast was excellent with a good choice for everyone. Service was good and it was nice to be asked at the table what you wanted instead of the usual buffet style which is now the norm in other hotels.
We'll certainly be back.

Hi, we are all delighted with the five star review you have awarded us and it raises morale whilst in the middle of a very busy period. Its go, go go at the mo ! We always try to give great service and I appreciate the fact you recognise there are different standards of room of which you can buy into.
Best Regards and hope you return and stay again.

Only stayed here as everywhere else on the route north was full or considered too expensive. Booked the last room so a twin only. The hotel is located just out of the town centre so a bit of a walk if you want to go into Pitlochry.
Check in was friendly and we'd overheard the details about the spa and meal times. Meal times seem a bit short 8.00-9.30 for breakfast and 6.00-8.00 for dinner. We were advised dinner was busy and we're recommended to book a time, opting for 8.00 so we could use the spa first.
Nice pool, jacuzzi and sauna but the changing rooms were quite dated and the pressure for the showers was low.
The bedroom itself was on the second floor and was an okay size but dated. Shower pressure was really low.
Dinner was a weird experience, the dining room being only half full despite being told it was fully booked for the seating before ours. Varied menu but several items were not available. Eventually settled for two curry style dishes, only to be told later that no rice left! They then tried to charge us for having chips instead.
Weird that you had to sign everything to your room as soon as it was ordered as opposed to at the end of the meal.
Gives the impression of a "bus tour" hotel.

Hello and I'm sorry you scored us so low following your recent stay. A couple of positives and a couple of negatives for us to go off and consider. We operate the dining room in a fashion that works for us and our customers which means seating customers at various stages of service allowing a controlled and organised dining experience. Having said that, circumstances come about on occasion that result in wee mistakes being made and it would appear we made a small error on your part.
Thanks again and I hope you will give us a second chance.

Having been in Scotland for a few days we were doing some travelling and having heard good things about this hotel we thought we would give it a try for ourselfs - it did not disappoint! This hotel offered fantastic service. We ate here on the morning of our departure. My only moan being breakfast could be a bit better other than that the evening service was lovely with well knowledged staff. Would stay here again

We went as a nice break away for our anniversary, we were very impressed with Pitlochry but the hotel was bitterly disappointing, the building was lovely and public areas where attractive and tidy however the rooms where dated with little appeal and the en suite was in need of a deep clean and refit. The shower facilities where pretty poor too. We went half board and ended up eating out on our second night and forfeiting our dinner as the food was very poor, I had salad and the lettuce was brown not what you expect from this type of hotel.

Hello there and I am sorry we fell way short of your expectations.....it's been a very long time since we scored so badly and we will adress the matter in our morning meeting today. I always point out that our standard rooms are standard and you can upgrade to newer and more modern accommodation for a reasonable supplement. I have to accept that if we serve about one thousand dinners per week something, on a rare occasion, can go wrong and I just wish you had mentioned the matter and given us a chance to rectify the problem.
We don't like two and three star reviews here but we do listen when they come in and question eachother as to how it might have come about.
Regards

Stayed for five nights on a Shearings holiday. Very happy with our room which was light and spacious (we had booked a triple, as no doubles left at time of booking). It was certainly clean and, although a bit jaded in decor, it was tidy and well serviced. We thoroughly enjoyed our food, which was plentiful and of good quality - with the exception of the much mentioned scrambled egg for breakfast!

Staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel is well situated, only about 10 minutes walk into town. Some guests may struggle with the hill on the way back, but there is a bus. Leisure facilities looked inviting enough and were obviously well used by other guests, but we didn't get that far!

Some pleasant walks in the area - to a small loch and onward to Ben Vrackie for the energetic, or along the river to visit the fish ladder and dam, which is mostly on the level.

Room Tip: Most rooms probably have a respectable view

Hi there and I'm glad you had a nice time and felt that Highland Perthshire was pretty special. We certainly are a 'lovely hotel in a nice setting' as you have said and it's always nice when customers recognise that.
See you here again and remember it is stunning here whatever season you choose to visit.
Thanks

Lovely relaxing weekend at the Pitlochry Hydro. Staff are so friendly and helpful throughout the hotel. Pool and Jacuzzi clean, warm and lovely. Room was a bit dated but clean and comfy although shower was a bit odd. Food - well powdered egg - enough said. Saw lots of plates with scrambled egg returned to the kitchen does that not give the kitchen a message - obviously not. We were charged for a bowl of chips even though my companion ate nothing else from the set menu and only had a bowl of cornflakes for breakfast - bit stingy me thought. It was a lovely weekend and we will go back but next time it will be on a B & B basis.

Room Tip: We just had standard room - room looked out onto a moss covered roof - didn't matter as we did n...

Hi, firstly I'm glad you had a nice relaxing break and awarded us four stars but secondly I'm sorry the dining experience was not to your satisfaction. I'm not sure if it was down to confusion on our part, I will investigate, but ordinarily you wouldn't have been charged for chips if you had had nothing else.
Hope you give us another chance and try us again sometime.
Thanks again
