“Fantastic Break”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

We took a one night break at Beinn Bhracaigh during a stay in Scotland to deal with family problems and it was complete break. Room was brilliant and we enjoyed a drink in the bar to unwind before dinner in a local Inn. Breakfast was superb, we will certainly go back as the area has much to offer.

Dear Ian445_13,

Many thanks for your positive review on TA of your recent stay with us. The `Honesty` Bar is well liked by many of our guests, who have the chance to `nose` any of our 50+ Malts and narrow down a suitable option to then try.

Hopefully the sun will continue to shine this Bank Holiday Easter weekend & with no snow around at lower levels, what better time to come and see us.

Very best regards,

James & Kirsty Watts

We stayed here while doing a few walks in the area and the owner kindly let us park our car on the driveway both before we'd checked in and after we'd checked out. The room was very clean and the duvet was very warm (it was snowing the entire weekend) and had a beautiful view across the town and hills beyond. The decor was fresh and smart, just as can be seen on the website. Breakfast the next day was really superb. Very nice stay!

Dear Holly R,

A belated thank you for your review.

We were pleased to see that we hit 5/5 on almost all of your measurements of our service, not quite sure how that equated to only a 4/5 overall score, but none the less we would of course be delighted to see you return again at some future point.

Best regards,

My husband and I and our two daughters have just returned from a lovely two night stay at Beinn Bracaigh,Pitlochry at the end of a week's hard hillclimbing.
We travel and walk extensively and were pleasantly suprised by the quality of our stay here in comparison to other B&B's we've stayed in.
All the areas in this B&B were spotlessly clean and the welcome we received when we arrived was warm and genuine. The impression we have been left with is of a well kept , smartly appointed period house, with a real quality feel. My highlights were the candle lit honesty bar and the views from our spacious and beautifully furnished bedroom.
Food was lovely, the menu had a sophisticated take on the traditional Scots breakfast, I had phoned ahead as I am a vegetarian and my daughter has food allergies and this posed no problem, infact the owner emailed us to confirm that they would provide alternatives which were really tasty. The service at breakfast was friendly and efficient, my husband - normally monosylabic at breakfast, was impressed and moved to have a conversation!
Would thouroughly recommend this place, excellent value and a wee treat for the fussy who need a bit of pampering. Thank you Beinn Bracaigh!

I do wish we did not have such high hopes of the Beinn Bhracaigh hotel / someone's house. After an extraordinary trip touring the highlands of Scotland, myself and my wife made this our last stop before heading home. We booked this based on the lovely photos of the Beinn Bhracaigh, picturesque views and fully expecting a comfortable and enjoyable stay to end our fantastic trip.

We arrived at the hotel and were slightly confused, it looked more like someone's home than a hotel. The car park (or driveway rather) was full and so we had to use street parking and walk to the hotel. Rather awkwardly we walked up to the house and proceeded to the desk, we were warmly greeted and welcomed by absolutely nobody for approximately 20 minutes. Tired and in need of a shower and to relax this was far from ideal. Out of the woodwork appeared James, he was very sarcastic and had a demeanour that was a cross between Basil Fawlty and Mr Bean.

He gave us a tour of the hotel / his house, the rather awkward honesty bar which was essentially a front living room with a few book shelfs with spirits and the like on them to help yourself since there is nobody to serve. The restaurant was next, (this was as big as my own dining room) and then onto our room. James left us with the rather strange scroll which had to be handed back in order to get breakfast in the morning? One can not decide on the morning if they wish to have breakfast at the hostel or not. They must decide the evening before.

And so we settled into our room, the bed was really comfy ;) The TV worked, the toilet worked, the shower worked, the lights worked. This was a bonus considering the experience so far. So whilst myself and my wife were watching TV with strawberries and cream we had the rather awkward experience of a couple of guests (peeping toms) walk up to the window to peer in. This took us by surprise and made us feel really awkward for the rest of the stay. A word of advice, you should keep the curtains closed at all times, even during a sunny day. If not expect the guests of the hotel to appear as there are tables and chairs right outside the windows of the lower floor free for any Tom, Dick or Harry to sit on outside your window.

And so the night went on, creak creak, bang bang, quack quack, the sound insulation between the rooms clearly left a lot to be desired. I would advise on investing some earplugs before staying here. You will always get this in hotels but this was particularly bad.

Breakfast! Yum yum. The food was fantastic, cooked to perfection and set us up good for the rest of the day. This would have been the best part of staying at the hotel if it were not for the 'come dine with me' feel to dining room. In complete silence the occupants of the hotel ate, you could hear a pin drop and there it was a rather awkward experience where you did not feel you could speak but you could listen to the rest of the occupants eat there was through there food.

So to summarise, although this hotel/house had it's downfalls they could look at trying to rectify these through this feedback in order to make what is a 2 star at best hotel into a 3 star maybe. Indeed we got fed, had a bed to sleep in and that is what counts I suppose.

Regards,

Ben

Just stayed at this hotel and it was lovely. Amazing view from the room, James was very chatty and welcoming. My partner and myself were so chilled staying there. The only thing i would say was that the veg breakfast was quite small compared to the normal scottish breakfast. Thanks for the lovely stay.

We had a lovely 2 night break as a wedding anniversary gift from our daughters. Kirsty and James could not have been nicer. The rooms were lovely and the breakfast was out of this world. The honesty bar was something we had never heard of before and is a brilliant idea. Pitlochry is a great place to visit and we would recommend this establishment every time. Thanks again.
