Looked forward to this holiday since booking it back in Feb and we were not disappointed. The cottage was well appointed and had great little finishing touches such as chocolates, shower accessories, tea and biscuits, bread and milk and some home-made jams - to name a few! Also 2 sets of binoculars, a bat detector and nuts for the squirrels! The seating was comfortable and the bed warm and cosy. The main attraction is of course the red squirrels - we did not see a great deal of them as we were mostly out hiking during the day but the days we were back in the afternoon - there they were. Even on a rainy day, you could just sit in the conservatory (or the bedroom) and watch the bird feeders - totally fascinating. Kathleen was very welcoming and made us instantly at home.
James gave up his time to take us on a short walk to some badger sets he knew about. Although we did not see one the first time, we returned the following 2 nights and saw badgers as well as a large number of bats.
All in all - a fantastic cottage, in a superb location for wildlife and walking.
This was the most well equipped cottage we have ever had! Our hosts, Kathleen and James had thought of everything that one could possibly need. Its a beautiful, cosy cottage in an idyllic setting, the wildlife is amazing and the whole area is breath taking.
We spent a wonderful 5 nights in this lovely cottage which is located in beautiful, relaxing surroundings.
At the bedroom window and the conservatory we saw a variety of different birds including woodpeckers, pheasents, lots of finches and many more. There was also frequent visits by at least 3 different red squirrels and lots of bats.
We have never stayed in a holiday cottage as comfortable and as well equipped as this one.
The owners were fantastic, they were very friendly and there to give assistance and advice, but also respected our privacy.
We highly recommend this holiday cottage,
We will definitely be revisiting.
Our 3rd visit to Squirrel Cottage & it was up to the usual high standard. We saw the red squirrels every day, particularly as we came armed with hazelnuts to tempt them. Very comfortable, clean cosy cottage with many extras left for guests to use, including toiletries, chocolates, bread & milk etc. Huge conservatory, great for relaxing in or more importantly to watch the visiting wildlife from. Kathleen & James were the perfect hosts once again, on hand if you need them but not intrusive. Excellent wildlife watching opportunities include bats, red squirrels & a huge variety of birds. The cottage & surroundings are so nice that we were happy to spend quite a lot of time relaxing, photographing the wildlife & playing the 9 hole putting course set out in the garden. Once again thanks for a great holiday. We have already booked again for next May.

The cottage facilities are best described as "they have thought of everything". This is the second time we have stayed there and friends who we told about it are also going back a second time.
