Well what can I say about our stay at The Atholl Palace... Well not everything was bad as the hotel had upgraded our room on arrival as it was a special occassion so I'll give them their due there. On arrival at the room, the toilet was dirty so much so the room smelled! and there was used soap left from the last visitor. The menu's on the Internet made the food sound delicious but the Restaurant Menu was rather poor in comparison. The service was.. well just ok I suppose, although I expected more from a 4 star hotel. Some examples... on ordering dinner we asked the waiter what the soup was and his reply was " I don't know" without the offer to go and check. We then asked for a Diane sauce for our steak's but the reply was "we only have polish chef's and they won't know how to make all those fancy sauces, the hotel is only a 4 star not a 5" so need less to say we went without. The staff were pleasant enough but a certain standard was lacking. The bar closes early and we were told the fire couldn't go on as somebody had to come and clean it out first. We weren't made too welcome when we sat in the lounge after the bar closed as lights were being switched off around us and we felt like we were being sent to bed. In the spa the prices were dearer than what they were listed as in the hotel welcome guide and the treatments were disappointing as the treatment rooms were cold and the treatments didn't match up to there description. The hotel could have been cleaner and a better service would have been nice. I will say that the place is steeped in history and the grounds are lovely especially in Autumn and if your looking for 4 star prices with 2 star quality this is the place for you.
