“What an entrance!”
Reviewed February 3, 2014

We had two nights in this hotel. The walks in the hotel grounds were beautiful. The area around has many more walks. The hotel was beautiful. The swimming pool and jacuzzi were very good temperatures and very clean. The staff were all very friendly especially in the restaurant . The evening meal was fabulous and it was nice sitting next to the open fire drinking our tea and coffee at the end of the meal. The rooms were spacious and beautifully decorated. The hotel was very quiet but was also very relaxing.

Stayed overnight at the weekend. This is a decent, old-world hotel which is in pretty good condition. Our room was small and the shower was just passable. The major downside to the room was that it was too warm and the duvet was too thick. Consequently we had a poor night's sleep. The breakfast was good but the staff should keep a better eye on the hotplates as I had to ask a waiter to replace the fired eggs. We attended a Burns Supper and the meal was okay. Disappointingly, though, the menu that was online was changed on the night. The wine list was almost non-existent with only one white, one red and one rose. It's not a hotel we would be in a hurry to revisit.

Thank you for posting your review. It is very difficult to maintain the right room temperature at this time of year as one moment it is beautiful and mild, and the next we are being blown around in a blizzard - so I can only apologise you found the room too warm. I have consulted the chef about the Burns Menu, and we do reserve the right to change the menu up until the event, but he does take on board your comment concerning the fried eggs at breakfast, so thank you for pointing this out.
I do hope you will give us another chance in the future, we hope to welcome you back.
With kind regards

Just returned from a fantastic 2 night Spa break with friends. What a hoot! Superb levels of service all round. The hotel feels so grand and luxurious. We had a family room as there were 3 of us in the one room, and that was great. We were even lucky enough to get into the room when we rolled up at 9am, for a nice early start to the weekend, because it had been empty the night before. The package came with afternoon tea which was vast, 2 beauty treatments and D,B&B, and it was all great. All staff were friendly and attentive. James in the maitre d' team in the restaurant was particularly good, as was Debbie in the spa, and Radu (?) in the waiting team was also very helpful. We booked here after I'd been to a wedding here last Summer and thought it was great, so I'm particularly happy it lived up to my expectations. It's really good to see a core staff of older Scottish people, so you know the owners must be good enough to their staff to hang onto them, and they all seemed to work together very well. The 3 of us all agreed we would definitely be back next year. Wish it was now!

Room Tip: We were in a family room up on the third floor at the back of the hotel (325). Spacious and nice and...

If you have been to Perthshire in Scotland you will know the beauty there is in the area, especially within an easy walking or driving distance from Pitlochry. Add to that a stunning, historic hotel which offers everything for a holiday or short break. The verandah restaurant doesn't only have spectacular views outside to the stunning countryside but also offers tasty Scottish food with first-class service. Where else grows their own veg? There is also quite a bit of history in the basement of this hotel.....as we did, will let you discover its secret when you get there. Would thoroughly recommend a visit.......especially in this year of Homecoming Scotland!

Room Tip: Our room was small, but it was definitely a "Room with a view of the mountains". It was s...

It is a great looking hotel, but we had a room in which we could hear everything from the person snoring, take a shower at 7 am or anyone walking in the hallway! The diner was good and breakfast was very good. Amazing region and many options to enjoy nice visits or walks in the nature.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. I am happy to hear you enjoyed your stay, and I am sorry you found the walls were a little thin - we don't often hear that kind of comment as we are an old Victorian style building with very thick walls! I hope you will visit Highland Perthshire again and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Atholl Palace Hotel.

We stayed 2 nights Saturday and Sunday ,the the room, the service and the food were first class. What I also did like was the menu on Sunday night was completely different from the previous night, which does not happen in a lot of other hotels. The owner of the hotel introduced himself to all guests at night, a right character and a gentleman.
Recommend this hotel to anyone.

Cannot fault the APH! It has been 14 years since our last visit and we were not disappointed. Our Valley View room was very spacious, warm, well decorated, very clean and of course a stunning double aspect view. There was very little noise from anywhere in the building to spoil our stay. The only barely audible noise coming from the very occasional passing train. The food we had for dinner came quickly and was extremely tasty. I could not fault the service during dinner and it appeared to be quite a busy session. We even had a visit from owner Fin during dinner! The buffet breakfast was very good as well, setting us for the journey home and not needing to eat until the following morning! The Lavender Spa in the basement deserves a special mention, too. We spent an enjoyable couple of hours there. The APH is great value for money and we look forward to returning in the future.
