My wife and I booked for 2 nights Bed & Breakfast on 28 and 29 April. We liked the web site portrayal of the premises and upon arrival we felt we had made a good choice as the hotel is just a short distance from the town yet tucked away in delightful extensive grounds. The old substantial building is attractive and can be described as a fine country house hotel. Parking outside the front is plentiful with a larger overflow area very nearby. The greeting on arrival was friendly and welcoming and all was in order with our reservation details. Porterage for our luggage was promptly arranged without our requesting it and it was a delight to make our way through the finely appointed and well furnished sitting area to a grand staircase to an impressive first floor landing. Our room was on the second floor and was spacious and attractive and well furnished as befits the building. Having elected to bring our small dog, it was a nice surprise to find a welcoming biscuit pack for him along with a short set of commonsense house rules! The double bed was extremely comfortable and the carpet appeared to have been a recent replacement and felt to have a good underlay. The en-suite bathroom was clean and appeared to have been recently redecorated and was equipped with an over bath shower which appeared relatively new and was both sufficiently powerful and easily controllable which is not always our experience on the second floor in older buildings. The dinner menu appeared inviting and not expensive and we were extremely pleased to enjoy an excellent meal in the attractive restaurant with many window tables overlooking the lawn and mature gardens with flowering shrubs and trees. Service was at all times attentive and courteous, never intrusive, from the professional well mannered team who appear happy and well lead. The food was very well presented and very well cooked reflecting good sourcing of quality ingredients, especially the meats. We were sufficiently wowed with our dinner to reserve a table on the second night. Without doubt the meal and wines are very good value for money. Breakfast too was well organized and very enjoyable with an excellent selection from a self serve facility plus cooked breakfasts freshly cooked and delivered promptly. It was nice to see less widely available choices included such as ommelettes and smoked haddock with poached egg. We were absolutely satisfied with all aspects of our stay and will undoubtedly return later this year and consider a Christmas or New Year visit.
