Description: Ardchoille comes form the Gaelic meaning the 'High wood'. It started life in 1961 when it opened as a place where you could have a coffee and listen to the juke box. Ardchoille Fish & Chip cafe has been continuously owned by the same family since it opened and has served well over one million fish and chips. We now serve Beers and Wines!!!! Indoor and out door patio seating during the summer. It is recommended in the Lonely Planets Guide 2003 - Britain and Ireland: "Serves the cheapest eats in town and does so with atmosphere." The fresh North Sea haddock is very popular. Steak pies, scampi, chicken, also white and black pudding suppers. Haggis suppers.

“It didn't kill me, but it probably could have ...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2012

We visited this establishment while on a Highland Tour. It looked like a dodgy takeaway joint that would guarantee give you food poisoning, this is partly true. Daniel and I both had cheeseburgers and I just about had a panic attack when I saw the finished burger pattie product. It was so heavily processed I thought .. There's so many preservatives and chemicals in this it couldn't possibly make me sick. And it didn't. But I swear I had a doubt in the back of my mind. It honestly wasn't the worst cheeseburger I've ever had, but it was very very bad. I'm sure maybe the other items on the menu may be better? Lots of locals eat here apparently so it can't be that bad, just don't get it if you, like me, can't stand processed food.

“is there no health &safety here”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2012

a roll and chips, well not quite what i was expecting.a stale bap and frozen hard chips was bad enough, the ladies toilet had fungus on the top of the toilet brush and the bin was thick with dust. I could not eat felt sick and we are not fussy people.really shocked in a place like this where people visit from all over the world.I thought food outlets had to have a certain standard of cleanliness???

“Not bad”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2012 via mobile

Fish tea (fish, chips, bread, butter, tea) for £6.95. And kid's meals for £2.99. I really can't complain about that. Plenty of locals eating in and carrying out.

“Cardboard”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2012

Fish really wasnt good at all didnt seem fresh, batter was to wet/heavy the chips were underdone tasted of cardboard and looked as though the chips had been boiled instead of fried, the atmosphere was like being in a dusty cob webbed room, the lady making the food looked as though she was in it for the money instead of the quality, to sum up this so called chip shop "bad" doesnt to spring to mind.
