“Nice stay!!!! :-)”
Reviewed February 7, 2013

Got a two nights DBB and a bottle of wine on a Groupon deal at a fantastic rate! First of all Pitlochry is beautiful little town set in a stunning location, especially when it snows, so it's a must place to visit! Go to the Old Mill and McKays bar for food a drink. I suggest going to the Blair Athol distillery, have a tour and dram of wishky then walk over to the Festval theatre, The Salmon ladder and a walk by the river to the green walk bridge back into town!
The hotel is less than a ten minute walk from the train station. We got in we got lost straight away, there’s abut 3 entrances and the front reception is in neither in three of these locations. Once we arrived the receptionist was very professional and lovely and pointed us to are room. On route to our room it was like we were back in the 60's or in some Hitchcock movie! The hallways are awful! On entering the room i was surprised given the state of the hallways. The rooms must of been decorated and where nice with an amazing bed! Great mattress = good sleep! The lock on the door is frustrating too and takes you 5 minutes the first time to figure out how to work it. First nights dinner was again mixed reviews. Food was good but the room was dark and cold. And this was when i noticed that only 2 to 3 staff do everything! Especially the South African gentleman, give that guy a medal! Next night dinner was warmer and much better especially when the food and beverage manager was on....what a change! Breakfast was a bit disappointing as you get very little choice and the portions are very little too! We are in Scotland....gives us a proper breakfast and i do nt know who made up the room service prices with those service tray charges. Probable due to having three staff they are trying to put people off lol
The last night was great fun where we decided to stay in the hotel. The Night Portman Stan again is a great character and you have some great discussions with him. Drink prices aver very cheap!
Over all a good two days stay. Amazing staff! Good rooms and spa! It’s tough times with very little money to spend on the hotel....but to the owner if it wasn’t for your staff......

Room Tip: Try and get a room looking out into the town and the stunning hills!

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us, thank you for all your lovely comments my staff do work very hard I totally agree and when its quiet the staff on duty multi task it's what we all do. The bedroom doors lock it's just a case of pushing in the button and turning it to the left or right and thats it locked. Our corridors are due to be refurbished again soon before the season starts. Will pass on all your kind comments to David, Stan & Thomas, thanks again for your review

We found a great deal on a spa breaks and stayed here for a weekend. 2 night stay with breakfast and 3 course dinner plus a spa treatment each.

The location of the hotel is perfect. Walking distance to town, walks and tourist attractions. The hotel itself is needing a bit of refurbishing in some parts but overall is nice, clean and comfortable. Our room was clean, modern and spacious. The bar is cosy with friendly bar staff. We had a few drinks in there in the evening and found prices reasonable with plenty of choice. The restaurant staff were very friendly and provided great service. The food was outstanding. There is 3 choices for each course. The menu was different each night we were there. The choices were really good. The breakfast was also very good. Plenty of choice. Even though we got a deal for the weekend I would happily pay full price for the 3 course meal if we return. The spa area is quite small but it wasn't too busy when we were there so we were able to use all the facilities without it being too crowded. We both really enjoyed are massages. The therapist was friendly and very good at massage. The treatment were lovely and comfortable. Overall our stay was very enjoyable and would return if we visit Pitlochry again. I find some of the reviews on here unfair. Don't worry too much about them as I feel people are nit picking.

Great location, but hotel a bit tired and musty smell. Put in room 142 across from very busy cleaning cupboard with crap view over old outhouses. Wee moan and moved to family room looking over town; pretty good. Food great but very select menu with no safety option (chicken) unless you revert to main menu and pay a lot more dosh. Staff really nice, in fact fantastic (they work long and hard hours). Cretan - come on, give this hotel some TLC, a wee facelift.. Was a great wee break for me and my wife, and at a reasonable price, but get up from 18th place to top 10, come on!

Room Tip: Ask for family room 134, more space, less noisy, handy stairs to dinner... Enjoy..

My husband and I stayed here on a 2 night dbb groupon package with a free bottle of wine on the first night. Our room was clean and comfortable with the usual facilities and a nice view over the snowy hills. The staff were all very attentive and at dinner the food was good and we didn't have long to wait between courses. There was a choice of 3 things per course on the set menu or if you wished you could chose from a la carte at an additional cost. The free bottle of wine was also very nice. The hotel also has a small bar area where you can sit and have a few quiet ones before retiring for the night. Breakfast the next morning had enough choice to suit everyone, cereals, yoghurts, and cooked items. We didn't use the spa or swimming pool facilities so can't comment on these but all in all we had a pleasant stay. The hotel is in a good location near to the main shops, cafes and bars.

Stayed at this hotel with my girlfriend!! We chose it because we had heard good things from our friends. It was lovely, nice comfortable rooms, great staff, especially in the restaurant!!! The girl with the blonde hair was very friendly and happy to help. She had explained that they had new menus. The food was delicious!!! We were only booked in for 1st night dinner, and due to its quality we booked in for the second night and again were very happy with the food and service. Breakfast was just as good. We will definitely be returning and would like to thank all the staff for a wonderful stay :)

Room Tip: They have 3 buildings, go for the 400`s, lovely rooms :)

Booked this 2 night dinner, bed and breakfast with spa day as a treat for my mum's 60th and as a deal purchased on-line the standard was okay. However would have been very disappointed if we'd paid full price.

The hotel and rooms are very clean but the rooms and corridors leading to them are pretty shabby and new carpets and a lick of paint would not go amiss.

We had been left a bottle of bubbly by my dad in the room which was finished on the Fri, However the dirty glasses and empty bottle remained in the room by the time we left on Sun. The towels were not changed after day one and you are expected to use these towels or hire at additional cost from the spa to use at the pool.

The food on Fri night could not have been better, however the food on Sat was not up to scratch. It was a bit bland and every course was lukewarm. Breakfast on sat included poached eggs which tasted so strongly of vinegar that we couldn't finish them.

Communication was pretty poor at times with some staff not understanding us and our orders being confused three times over the course of the stay and we had to wait ages between courses. Rose wine came with no wine cooler so the wine warmed up pretty quickly. Upon asking for an ice bucket, the bucket came back minus the ice (which we were told was not necessary) and hence did not proceed to succesfully chill the wine. We ended up getting our own glass of ice from the bar and adding it to the cooler ourselves.

Coffee was featured on Saturday's menu but when we asked for it we were informed that guests had to walk through to the lounge/bar and collect it themselves. When we did this however there was no coffee in the pump dispenser. We were also just about to eat dessert when we were informed that the entertainment was about to start and asked if we minded moving tables. Guests should not be placed at tables which staff know need to be moved in time for the entertainment.

The reception area was left unmanned a couple of times when we needed someone - fine except we couldn't see a bell to call for anyone and so had to hang about waiting for someone to turn up. In addition the pool lifeguard was rarely at the pool when guests were in swimming. I was in on my own for about an hour which was fine, however had I had any accident in the pool, sauna etc there would have been nobody there to notice.

On the plus side the staff were all, for the most part, lovely and the spa treatments were brilliant with the girl working at the spa being very nice and very professional.

All in all there was no one major thing which disappointed, just an accumulation of small things which unfortunately let the hotel down as a whole. Although I would visit the spa again, I would absolutely think twice before staying at the hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us, my apologies that your bubbly and glasses were not removed when you had finished with them, regarding the towels if they are placed within the bath then they are replaced its part of our save the environment scheme. My apologies that your meal with us on the Saturday was not as good as Fridays. My apologies if my receptionist was called away to deal with other guests this does happen which does leave my reception unattended at times as for the swimming pool we do have cameras on the pool but this should not have been left unmanned. Thanks again for your review
