“Not at all child friendly”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2013 via mobile

Whilst staying in Pitlochry with our two year old son we chose The Auld Smiddy as it had a children's menu/high chairs etc! The food was reasonable but slightly overpriced and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with small children! Whilst they had facilities for children it was not at all "child friendly" and to be honest we were made to feel like an inconvenience, even though our little boy never left his high chair! The staff weren't exactly welcoming either, although they were polite, there was a distinct lack of friendliness that we've experienced elsewhere!

“Look no further for your meal in Pitlocry”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 6, 2013

Recommended by the B&B, we were not disappointed by the Auld Smiddy Inn. Fast, friendly and efficient service and a nice take on some Scottish ingredients - the scallops and black pudding was outstanding. Book unless you want to be turned away - we watched as the restaurant filled well before 7:15 and was still in May!

“unique Scottish food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2013

We dropped in here to share a bite for supper and were quite pleased with offerings! Nothing was ho-hum about the food as it was well prepared and had a thoughtful tweak to it. Instead of bangers and mash, there was a venison sausage which was very good. Once again, the service was friendly without hovering and everything was timely. Thank you!

“Very disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2013

The fish pie, described as consisting of haddock, tuna, scallops, and smoked salmon sounded delicious so we ordered two, what a let down! The pie arrived in what I would describe as a small soup bowl with a garnish of small pieces of carrot, parsnip and a spoonful of cabbage. It
consisted mainly of dry potato with the very minimum of fish in a dried up sauce, although I did manage to find a minute piece of scallop. We mentioned this to one of the serving staff, but after we had eaten. [We realised we should have complained before but were very hungry, having driven 350 miles up to Pitlochry during the day.] She came back to us to say that the chef asked "had we enjoyed it?" Well not really, but we had eaten it! Certainly not worth the price of £13.25 each.
each and certainly not worth another visit.
