Owner description: Culture is at the very heart of Perth and Kinross. Artists, writers and musicians across the ages have found their inspiration here by the River Tay. Perth Museum and Art Gallery houses one of the oldest museum collections in the UK. Our changing exhibition programme explores the heritage and creativity of Perthshire - with a unique selection of art, natural history and archaeology on display to bring these stories to life. The venue also hosts contemporary touring exhibitions. A warm welcome is extended to all, with free activities in the galleries and an annual programme of events to support the exhibitions. The museum offers disabled access, parking nearby and a gift shop. We are open Monday - Saturday 10 am- 5 pm with Sunday opening April - October 10 am- 5 pm Admission is FREE.

The museum has some beautiful paintings, and exhibits, but when we visited the upstairs and part of the ground floor were closed, what we could access we enjoyed.

Could do with a small coffee shop.

Thank you very much for your review. I am so sorry that parts of the museum were not open but you must have hit the week when we were changing from the Robert Mapplethorpe exhibtion to the new RSW exhibition called a "Sense of Place". I do apologise once again and hope that the next time you visit all of the galleries are open. We would love to have a cafe but so far the practicalities have yet to be overcome.

I hope you enjoy your next visit.

Went to see Robert Mapplethorpe exhibition. It was well staged and I was impressed. The rest of the museum is given over to local exhibits and they are well presented. It's straightforward, easy to understand and unpretentious. It's free and if you have a specific interest ; like Picts or Perth of yesteryear then you will be enthralled. It's a good stop for tourists trying to get a glimpse of what this area used to be like. The Carpow long boat is a little treasure. You would probably struggle to spend more than a couple of hours there...but worth a detour to find.

Visited this museum on my day visit to Perth from Dundee (70 mins on bus no 16). Getting cold so went in for a warm! The silver collection and glassware was lovely. There is a great riverside walk across the West bridge down to Bellwood Park (sculptures in here) then back over Queens Bridge, or the footpath by the rail bridge. The museum is free by the way.
