Our Wedding Day May 22nd 2010

The Royal George was magical on our Wedding Day the sun was shining and the whole day was made special by the woderful ceremony, reception, and party all held within the Royal George Hotel. We had looked at three other venues in and around Perth and were very impressed by the services offerred by the Royal George. On the day the manager Mr Read and his staff were flexible, helpful and delviered very good service .There were no silly surcharges for less than 70 people, and final numbers to be given only a couple of days before the day. They were willing to sort out any minor snags at any point. We would reccomend this venue for any wedding party. Many of the wedding party had travelled from England and Ireland and stayed at the hotel and they all found it very comfortable and enjoyed the atmosphere and the venue too.One person said it was the best Scottish Wedding she had ever been too !

I am a coach Driver and this time of the year i am very busy with church/guild/rural/Senior Citizen trips, all involving High Teas at various Hotels. Most menus are very much similar therefore easy to compare. The food at the Royal George was far the best meal i have had this year. The hotel was very clean and the Staff were very friendly and outstandingly helpful. I would certainly recommend the Royal George to anyone wishing to take a group there for a high tea.

Thanks All at the Royal George

My wife and I visit Perth for family reasons some four times each year and we always choose to stay at the Royal George Hotel. We have patronised this historic hotel for twenty years through lean times and good. However, we are delighted to report that there has been continuous and impressive restoration and upgrading since the present owners, Mr. & Mrs. Anderson, took over the hotel ten years ago. They are excellent owners and hosts; their efforts are unceasing and their welcome always heart-warming. They bend over backwards to help, as do their obliging and friendly staff.
The Royal George Hotel is very well situated. Guests step out of the back of the Hotel directly into the beautiful city of Perth, with its theatre, concert hall, inviting shops and restaurants. Rooms at the front of the hotel look out over Tay Street onto the magnificant River Tay, and, within a few short strides, visitors can enjoy a pleasant and picturesque walk round the splendid North Inch.
The rooms in the hotel are clean, well appointed and comfortable, and the food is good. High teas are a speciality of the house and offer excellent value for money. Two of Perth's Rotary Clubs meet weekly at the Royal George, as do Perth Round Table and many other local and national organisations. Thus the Hotel is a lively venue and very well patronised.
We give the Royal George such a high rating as a mark of our appreciation for the hard work of the owners and their staff, which has ensured the continuing progress of the Hotel. We would not contemplate staying anywhere else and always look forward to our return.

The experience at the Royal George in Perth exceeded our expectations, and I would recommend it (and the city of Perth) to anyone looking for a brief, relaxing holiday. The hotel was bustling during the day with lectures and Rotary Club meetings and pensioner birthday parties in the sharp conference rooms. Sleep at night was very quiet, and with the window open we could hear the River Tay. Breakfast service was full and quick. Check-in and concierge service was fairly exceptional--quick, friendly, and savvy about attractions in the area. The location of the Royal George is convenient as well, and it is only a £4 or so cab ride to the train station.

The positive aspects of our stay are that we had a good room, with a poor view of the car park. It was spacious enough to invite friends around for a drink and had good room facilities as long as you did not want digital TV service. It's in a great location, across the road from the Art gallery and 1 minute from the theatre. It's a beautiful old place.
On the downside the staff, with one or two notable exceptions, did not seem to understand their role, ie to ensure guests were well catered for. This is an example of an interchange with the night porter.
"Would it be possible to get some cheese and biscuits"?
Reply: "I can't do that" following which he walked across to some ladies who were apparently more interesting.
I asked the same member of staff if I could have a water jug to go with the whisky I had just bought. "No you can't, it's the only one I have" was the short tempered reply. Many hotels would have offered maybe a glass of water instead. I passed 5 staff on my way to breakfast, none wished me good morning. The breakfast on one day was held in a conservatory without blinds on the hottest day of the year so far. The service was minimal with 2 overworked staff trying to cater for up to 60 residents. It took 45 minutes to get the order, by which time the heat was a real problem. The next day breakfast was held in a normal room with better levels of staffing, though the staff were not happy at late arrivals and made their points clear.
With this level of service the rates are way over what one would expect to pay. This could be a great hotel if they just tried harder. You cannot rest on your laurels and let the building do the work.
What I would suggest is that management take all the staff out to an away day, to learn about customer service and how the hotel trade works. I will return to the palce in future, despite its problems I liked it. But not before the staff training and motivation is complete!

I recently got married at the Royal george and stayed there for the week before, the rooms were great and the service fantastic, friendly and very welcoming.

My wedding day was the best day of my life thanks to the smooth running of Mr Anderson and all his staff. My guest who travelled from miltonkeynes have vowed to return when ever possible. I would like to take this opportunity and praise this hotel as the best I have ever been to.

Many Thanks Mr Anderson/Staff
