I took a party of 37 bowlers from Balgownie on a bowling tour and on the return journey we stopped at The Royal George for lunch. That was a week ago and everyone in the party is still raving about it.We had a choice of 3 starters, mains, sweets and coffee and mints. The food was absolutely superb and the presentation was phenomenal.
Service was attentive, courteous and brisk, with nothing too much trouble.
The table decoration and presentation would not have been out of place at any 5* hotel and all in all I would thoroughly comend the Management and Staff for their care and attention to detail.Thank you Royal George for a truly enjoyable experiance.

We recently attended a wedding held at this hotel. We had the luxurious chinese suite. The rooms were clean and comfortable. My parents had one of the smaller rooms but was more than adequate for their needs. Not only was the hotel lovely but the staff were fantastic friendly and helpfull, with early check in to prepare for the wedding. It had a few quirks like creaky stairs leading to an from the rooms but all adding to the charm. Would make a return visit.

My wife and I recently spent 2 nights in a mini-suite- room 32, apparently designated as the bridal suite. Unfortunately management was otherwise engaged when we checked out, therefore we were unable to directly address several issues and to date they have not responded to an email requesting an adjustment to the invoice.

The poor supply of HOT water in the suite was ridiculous, one had to literally run at least half a bath of wasted water to achieve hot water at the wash hand basin. On our first evening and morning we were unable to achieve sufficiently hot water to utilise either the bath or shower.

Car parking is somewhat of a nightmare. A very small cramped yard which no doubt was entirely satisfactory prior to 1900 but most difficult to manouvre within with a medium to large sized vehicle. We were informed that street parking was available between 1800 and 0800 - but of little use if one was not departing on business early of a morning. We had to use multi storey parking overnight - some 5-10 minutes walk from hotel at considerable expense.

Following your email and comments on this site, I would like to respond to the points you rasie, having now got to the bottom of the hot water issue.

One of our six main water pumps had fused meaing that water relied on gravity rather than being forced through the hot water network to the first floor of the hotel. As you point out, whilst not ideal, after around 90 seconds, hot water was available. This pump has now been replaced and the normal hot water supply has been resumed. I am sorry for the inconvience caused, but not being a frequent occurence, we required a heat engineering company to pinpoint the problem.

To be fair to the hotel and anyone reading this review, I would like to point out that in your email to me you write "The room itself was comfortable and attractive."

I would like to clarify a few points regarding the car parking issues you raise.

Firstly unlike some other city centre hotels in Perth, and many nationwide we have our own free car park serving up to 19 vehicles. The car park is always advertised as limited, free and on a first come first served basis.

Upon arrival you did not enquire at reception regarding the parking. Although the car park may have appeared full, we have some under cover garaging on George Inn lane, and we often let residents block in the car park in order to take a space when they become available.

The car park regulary holds transit vans, SSE LWD Landrover Defenders and indeed skip lorries are able to drop 8 yard skips in the car park, so I am afraid, whilst sometimes tight, I cannot accept that youre Saab is to big to fit in!

I hope this has gone some way to answering your points.

Arrived in thick snow and ice but car park fully gritted so able to get in ok.
Nice warm welcome with a roaring log fire in reception and main bar. Hotel rooms large and warm with great comfy beds and settee. Good sized clean bathroom with shower .
Hotel bar very cosy with good beers etc. Main restaurant very good with great food especially the Steaks and Fish..excellent service too. Nothing to much bother for staff and cooked how you like it to.Very good wine selection and not over priced.
Breakfasts very good recommend the Poached Haddock with poached eggs.
Hogmanay excellent with good food and entertainment through to the early hours.
Hotel is situated on the River Bank with excellent views over river from bedroom.
Lovely walks along the River Bank either through park area or back towards town.
20 minute walk away is Kinnoull Hill which is a woodland walk rising up to 700 ft with great views across river and Perth itself. As you walk up Kinnoull Hill itself when you turn around there are breathtaking views of the Snow capped mountains appx 20 miles away..really stunning.
All in all the Hotel is a great place to stay and is Professionally run to with nothing too much bother for the staff. Great for family or couples or even on business.
certainly recommend to friends...full of character and charm..we'll be back.

My wife recently booked the hotel for 70th birthday celebrations and so our extended family descended en masse. The management were really accommodating over the phone with the arrangements and when we arrived bent over backwards to ensure we were satisfied with the rooms as well as with helping with the event itself. Given the number of people who attended, etc. it proved exceptional value
The hotel itself was lovely and fantastically situated in the heart of the city next to the river.
