My son and I stayed here for one night on a short tour of Scotland. Luckily they were able to provide two single rooms on very short notice.
The Royal Geoge is in a great location with walking access to all the town centre facilities and views over the River Tay. There is some guest parking in a car park to the rear which can be a bit of a squeeze.
The rooms are generally comfortable if somewhat dated and the bathrooms are also a little past their best.
Nevertheless, the service was good and our stay was comfortable enough and the breakfast very good.

Stayed September 2013, traveled with family

As other Reviewers have said, this hotel is quaintly old-fashioned yet a good place to stay in Perth. My room overlooked the River Tay, which is a stunning setting, yet the city streets and Perth's excellent shopping are just a few minutes away. I found the hotel staff friendly and welcoming which was good, my only regret being my stay wasn't long enough to include a meal. The room I had was bright, spacious and comfortable. I would single out the bed linen and towels as being of first quality; always a sign that a hotel invests in guest comfort! In some respects the hotel is like a large, comfortable, private club.....with log fires, newspapers and first class service in its lounges and bar. My room rate of £59 for B & B made it excellent value all round.

Room Tip: The upper floors appear to be only accessible via the stairs.

Recently stayed there in the Smeaton suite overlooking the river Tay and the Smeaton bridge , lovely view . The staff were very good , even though i think i was a pest ! 10 out of ten for them . The suite itself was large and comfortable . The tv is not that great , but i'm not a big telly fan so i don't watch a lot but it would be nice to have an info button , and a radio channel or two.. Breakfast is great. Coffee is great , and warm too . Would I go back ? yes and again .

Room Tip: Ask for a river view . Sit by the big log fire in comfort and relax....

Centrally located in the fair city of Perth, the Royal George is mere minutes on foot from excellent restaurants, Perth Concert Hall, the beautiful walkway by the River Tay and the tranquillity of the North Inch Park. On the ground floor, a comfortable lounge and well-stocked bar provide a relaxing location for a drink and a read. Rooms are simply but tastefully furnished, clean and comfortable. A generous breakfast in the dining room overlooking the beautiful River Tay provides a joyous start to the day. This will be my first choice on future visits to my favourite Scottish city.

Room Tip: Request a room with river view. Waking to a view over the Tay is an absolute delight.

With a quaint old fashioned charm and a comfy Scottish ambience, this is a hidden gem. Set in the centre of Perth and with a view of the river Tay, the staff are welcoming and friendly. Excellent value for money from the quality morning coffee (served with the best ever homemade shortbread) to meals and specials of the day. Best to reserve your table for Sunday lunch. Ideal to hold a small reception in the private dining rooms for an intimate special occasion. Modern attentive service in a location and style of a bygone era, it is charming and a personal favourite when staying in Perthshire.

Lovely comfy sofas, a fire, and sitting in the best part of Perth overlooking the Tay with the quiet central streets nearby dotted with local brasseries.
The floors and rooms are suitably creaky and different and the building is old and complex yet all room fittings are up to date.
Staff all friendly from the night porter to the breakfast ladies, and the owners will always look to accommodate you.
The only thing missing for a Scottish hotel is the sound of curlews up a remote glen.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the river can be noisy from the rushing water! Recommend second or third floor roo...

We had a pleasant stay at the hotel and the location is idea as it is on the riverbank with a good view and also just off the centre of the town and handy for the shops.
We had a nice room but it was on the second floor with no lift. This did not bother us but we felt it should have been mentioned beforehand as some guests would have found it a problem, especially as we had to carry the luggage up ourselves.
The breakfast was very nice but on our first morning there were no tables for us when we went down and we had to wait due to a wedding and the volume of guests. We felt this should also have been mentioned to us before booking as they were noisy till the early morning.
We did not eat in the hotel as I felt the dishes we would like were expensive for what they were but others liked the food.
The daily rom clean was a bit lacking in quality and while it was clean there was a lot of dust in places not removed. We had spilled coffee on the coffee tray and after the second morning it had not been removed and cleaned we stripped it and it was then attended to.
The hotel car park was small and due to the wedding was full on the first night but we got in after that for the rest of our stay. Perth was a good city for a short break as it has a nice shopping centre and plenty of walks in the area and the good weather helped.

Room Tip: Room at the river and far from function suite on weddings
