“Fantastic stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2009

Stayed here over New Year 08/09.

Very clean and comfortable rooms. Staff very friendly , lots of activities arranged without being intrusive. Service slightly on the slow side due to under staffing. Food was top class nothing was too much trouble even menu changes.

Very relaxed atmosphere. Can't wait to visit again.

We stayed at the New County Hotel in Perth, room 107 and my in-laws stayed in room 108 for one night. Some of the reviews we had read were mixed however our stay was great and am glad we went. Another night would have been nice!

The hotel reception area was lovely, it was bright, clean and modern and we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist. Our room 107 was basic but very clean and modern. The only bad thing about the room was our view which looked onto the back of a building which did not bother us in the slightest.

My in-laws room 108 was again modern and clean and they had a view of the street down below. They also had a double bed like us but had an additional singe bed. We were very pleased with the rooms.

We attended a famliy function in the restuartant that evening, again everything was clean, modern and all staff were very helpful. The food was great, nicely presented served on hot plates. The only complaint I have is that some people had finished their starters before we had even been served ours, the speed the food came out of the kitchen was a little slow.

All in all we would definately recommend this hotel and our rooms were very acceptable.

Stayed in Room 203 with husband and 3 kids. Parking is terrible with approx 4 spaces but there is an NCP. Entrance to hotel nice and modern. Staff helpful. Had to negotiate 3 flights of winding stairs with 3 kids and a buggy. Cooking smells really strong in corridors. Don't mean to sound picky, but they were REALLY strong! Bit of a rabbit warren to find room. Room was modern, clean and big enough for a double, single, airbed and cot. The bathroom was clean and spacious too. The cot etc was ready for us and there were plenty of towels. The rooms were freezing though and it took until morning with the heating on high to warm up. Interesting as I noted other comments how rooms were too hot. Obviously depends on season. Comfortable beds. The shower was worst ever! Took about 10 minutes standing under a lukewarm trickle to wash soap off. Decided to bath kids, took nearly 20 min to fill a lukewarm bath. Breakfast was superb though and the staff very attentive. So, make your own judgements. I wouldn't stay again but I love a power shower and feel the cold! The BIG NEGATIVE POINT was the windows. This was a big concern for us and I did write a note to the hotel regarding this. All the large windows (3) had large sills and they all opened out fully. An adult could easily have sat on the sill with the window wide open as they were so big. They had NO safety catches! I can't believe this is allowed. My kids are not explorers but if they were it's an accident waiting to happen. So please bear this in mind if staying with kids at this hotel.

It was my sisters 50th birthday and six of us stayed at he |New County for a week end of shopping. We had previusly stayed there and were looking forward to returning. Due to our mode of transport we knew that we would be arriving around 1pm. I had e-mailed the hotel to ask if it would be ok to leave our luggage, I was told this would not be a problem and if possible our rooms would be ready. On arrivial at 12.45am we found one room ready and the other two nearly ready. Great service. The receptionist was pleasant and very helpful. I had also requested a specific room for my mum and again this was not a problem.

All our rooms were together and were bright, airy and spotless.

As for the food it was out of this world. The quality and presentation was excellent. I am a vegetarian and there was plenty of choice for me. The restaurant has recently been refurbished and as an excellent ambience.

All of the staff were pleasant, friendly and very helpful. We are looking forward to returning next year, and yes I would reccommend this hotel.

We have just returned from Scotland - spending our last night at the New County Hotel in Perth. I feel that I have to write a review (my first one for Tripadvisor!) as this hotel was absolutely disgusting and one of the worst I have stayed at. We too were given the keys to room 211 and yes, it was exactly as described in the last review (!) so we changed rooms straight away. We were given room 203 - the room was OK and more spacious but the bathroom was not very nice or clean! Anyway decided to stay and at about 11.30pm we pulled back the bed covers - we discovered that the sheets had not been changed and their were hairs on there!!! We phoned reception and spoke to the same chap who had moved rooms for us earlier - he was not very apologetic - just suggested that we move rooms again to room 201. The girl who came up told us that "it was common to get hairs on the sheets and towels as this is how they sometimes get them from the cleaners" ! So we moved to our third room in one evening - this one was slightly bigger than room 211 - and again not very nice - hairs on the bathroom floor this time! We had no choice but to try and get some sleep - which was not easy as everytime someone walked outside the room, it was really loud and felt like they were in the room!! So no sleep and a very early check-out (after a shower that trickled and at one stage stopped altogether!). We did complain and asked for a reduction and got a measley £10 off the rate...we could not be bothered to argue as we just wanted to get out ot there. Not sure how the Scottish Tourist Board has awarded this place 3 stars!

The reception/dining and bar is modern and very comfortable. Reception staff very helpful and friendly on arrival, even offered to move his car so we could get a space in the parking area. We had arrived really late in the evening. The sight we saw in the 'double' room was discraceful. It was tatty and the bed was the worst I've ever slept in (apart from in Crete). The bathroom shocking, it was tiny and the shower trickled (as previously reviewed). It was stifling hot, which was solved by opening the window, but the traffic was so loud, we ended up with no sleep at all. The next morning I complained about the heat (I was told that wasnt their fault!) and when the shower was mentioned, the receptionist looked surprised. I had to wait until 11 oclock before finding out if a change of room was available, so half of the day was wasted as we had intended to check out rather than stay in the same room.
Our 'new' room was such a contrast - modern, airy, good sized bathroom. We could have stayed there much longer.
We ate in the restaurant and both food and service was excellent. Breakfast was also good.
We paid the same price for the rubbish room as the excellent room and feel robbed
My advice is to check your room first and no matter how late you arrive, don't be given the key to room 211
