Booked this hotel due to its close proximity to the hospital and after reading the reviews.I was a little disappointed.
We arrived at 2.40pm and followed the instructions on the door to go to 118 if no one was on the desk. I did this rang the bell and knocked on the door to no avail. However we didnt have to wait long as a young man appeared , checked us in and showed us to our twin room.
First impressions was of a very cramped twin room with a very varied colour scheme. Blue carpet, blue and green curtains, brown bedthrows and bright pink pictures.There was also a variety of mismatch furniture. The blue carpet was stained in between the beds and the coffee table too small to hold the kettle(which was on the floor) the table was chipped. The stand chair available was uncomfortable so I ended up drying my hair sat on the floor!
The bathroom was again very small but very clean and the shower was very good . However the mirror whilst fine for me was far too high for my mother.
The young man on reception was very helpful on our return in the evening . However the only chilled wine avilable from the'bar' was chardonney or Rose!
The breakfast which was ordered the evening before was lovely, plentiful ,made to order and piping hot..
We paid £70 for B&B for two I would not have liked to have paid more.

I appreciate you have taken time out to review us.I think a couple of points you have raised are valid and I would like to address them.
You mentioned both the decor and the carpet in room 3.We have fully refurbished all rooms with this being the only one not yet to have been done.Since you have left we have fitted a new built in wardrobe,redecorated and have a new carpet arriving early next week. I do feel what you have said about the decor is fair and have offered a 50% discount on your next stay with us as well as a free upgrade.Most of our rooms are much larger and we would be pleased to offer one.I do take all guests comments on board and am always looking to improve our services wherever possible.I am so glad you found the staff helpfull and enjoyed the breakfast so much.We would like to thank you for your business and l hope you will choose to use us again soon in the future.kind regards John

As part of our recent holiday we planned a visit to the Isle of Arran and were looking for a local B&B for a stop over. Although Kidron House is not somewhere we would normally stay the reviews on Trip were good so we gave it a go as choices were limited.

A summary of our stay:

* Upon check in we were immediately asked to pay. This we found very strange;
* the other part of a our group were allocated a twin room in the main house. They immediately asked to move as it was very small and noisy due to the lounge downstairs. This move was accommodated immediately;
* we stayed in room 15 the executive double which is located in a separate building. This is advertised as having a private shower and sauna. However, what is not highlighted is that this is down the hall with no lock on the outside so other guests can access, therefore not private.
*we found the rooms to be basically furnished (see photos). Our bed sheet had a hole and strain on it (rasied with reception and they offered to change it) and no mattress protector;
*on returning from dinner we found we were locked out of our room as the security latch had somehow dropped on the inside. The owner was called, a locksmith was not available so eventually the door was forced open 45 minutes later, which meant it closed but did not lock. Apologies were provided at the time but no recognition of this next morning when we checked out;
*This room has a large bathroom with jacuzzi bath but we didn't get an opportunity to use this by time we regained access to our room.
*Breakfast was basic - cereal, toast and hot items.

All reviews are personal opinions and everyone's standards differ. This place really wasn't for us and we would not return.

Room Tip: If staying ask for a room not in the main building as it will be quieter.

Many thanks for taking time to review us.I am sorry your stay was not all you expected and would like to address a few of your concerns.
1 We do generally take payment on arrival as stated in our terms and conditions.If guests request we are happy to take payment on departure which is no problem.
2 I am pleased your companions were moved immediately to a room of their preference I trust this resolved any issues.
3 The executive room comes with a very large en suite bathroom with jacuzzi as your photo shows.We also have a private bathroom to accompany it with power shower and private sauna.
This is never used by any other guests and the room key locks it from both out side and inside.
4 I noted you mentioned your bed sheet had a hole in it.I have spoken to our staff who said they had never been told this.Upon examination we could not find a hole.I must say I found it a little strange that having taken photos of the room you failed to photograph this.
5 The security latch on your door did not "somehow slip".In fact it locks in the up position and that is why you locked your self out of your room .As mentioned I could not get a lock smith at 11pm on Saturday evening but did gain access with in only a few minutes and not 45 as you have said.I did not mention it to you the following day as you are aware what happened and I did not feel it would be of benefit to say any more about it.
6 I would not agree that the breakfast menu is limited as we have a choice of full fry up, scrambled eggs.cereals toasts , yoghurt,cheeses ,cold meats.fruits and preserves,porridge etc.. to name just a small selection of what is available.
Still as customer service is always our main goal I must apologise again and hope your visit to Arran was all you wished it to be.Best wishes from all the staff of Kidron

Great hotel, nicely situated to enable us to visit relatives in Kilmarnock and bring our dog. Fantastic friendly and helpful staff. Good clean room, warm and cosy and as it had seperate entrance on to courtyard was ideal for our dog.
Good evening meal, but limited choice, lovely breakfasts.

Room Tip: Courtyard room great for pet owners

We arrived at this hotel on Saturday 30th March 2013 and were taken to our room. At home we only have a shower room and no bath so we were a little bit disapointed that there was no bath in the room. I just mentioned this to the lady in reception and she said she would upgrade us as soon as a room became available and true to her word the next day we were given a superb toom with an enormous whirlpool bath! at no extra cost.
We will certainly be going back to this hotel in the future and woould like to say a big thank you to the staff at Kidron House hotel.
Best regards Graham & Liz Roberts.
