Went to The Duffus Inn for Christmas dinner with family. We were greeted with a glass of 'fizzy' which was a nice welcome before being shown to our table. Was disappointed there was no Christmas tree in the room or Christmas music playing (yes, I know a lot of folk had had enough of hearing all the Christmas songs by then) just no Christmas feel about the place at all. We had already put in our order prior to the day so the food was taken out pretty quickly....however, maybe too quick. We all had a 4 course meal, starter, soup, main, dessert followed by coffee and were in and out within 90 minutes!!!! Felt we could have had more time in between courses, maybe a personal preference. The soup could have been warmer as I thought it was lukewarm which I don't particularly like. There was an abundance of veg to go with the few slices of turkey and as previous reviewer stated one chipolata etc. Yes, it was Christmas Day and realise staff wages would have been paid at a higher rate but at £50 per person the portions were on the small side and no Christmas ambience let The Duffus Inn down. Not quite what we expected for the money. We won't be back on Christmas Day again although I think we might go back for a meal again just to compare to give them the benefit of the doubt. The service was good, maybe too good as we had no time to digest each course.
The toilets require refurbished also. I also had a look in the disabled toilet which would also require more thought as to the lay out taking the needs of disabled people into account - very dated!

After pre ordering the food.

Would have thought that the taste of the food would have been better, " Pate needed more flavour, No bread with the soup, turkey nice , but 1 chipolata, 3 halve Rst spuds, and Stuffing Quinille that tasted like PAXO and Brussels " green " but no flavour !!!!!!!
Very poor .... The roast beef would have been better using a STEAK KNIFE " and felt like the brownie had been left heating to long in the micro , choc Sce just lobbed on...Ice cream was ok.

After been told " this was the place to go" bye a good few people We felt like it was just another £50 PP Disappointment for Xmas.

Thought food was VERY average for the price. Lesson Learnt !!!!!!!

Only positive " Waiting Staff Very Good " .

Have now been here a few times since moving to Elgin in summer. Cannot fault the place, the food is always amazing. Service can be a bit slow but we'll keep going back as the chef has it spot on!

First visit since new owners took over and renovation. Staff very friendly though could have made more profit had they come and asked if we were ok for more drinks. Food all well presented and quality very good..though more vegetarian selection would have been welcome.
Final wee comment is that we were all cold and bit of extra heating might be a good idea.
Definitely worth a trip good luck with the business!

A bit cold until moved next to the radiator (ask for table 12).

The mussels were disappointing as they were on the bland side but cooked well.

My wife enjoyed her medium rare steak which was done to perfection, and the sea bass was very tasty.

A bit surprised when my wife asked for a Bailey's latte and the waitress asked how it was made but the end result was perfect, my wife said it was the best she'd had, so well done to the waitress.

One final point for the restaurant, it would be nice if the waitress didn't wear such strong perfume.

We will definitely be back.

Thank John H
