Where to begin!! We chose the mansion house as we believed it to be a nice location and having been to a few weddings here cannot usually complain about the food or service.... How wrong was I!!! We will not be returning! Group of 8 of us went for 30 year anniversary dinner for our parents. Duck was overcooked, honeycomb burnt! Apart from that food not too terrible but the service was diabolical! Completely got ignored!! Mother in law found a piece of plastic in her starter, we complained. The waitress wasn't overly apologetic and said "the chef apologises". Then we got no offer to pour our wine or offer us more drinks. Had to constantly get their attention for things. Would excuse it slightly if it had been a busy restaurant but it wasn't. There was only our table and 3 couples in. We were first in and last out because we were ignored! We then had to ask for coffees. We did so and a few around the table wanted a liqueur. We did not ask for Irish coffees and the order was clear! We waited a ridiculous amount of time for them, after 30 minutes we again had to get someone's attention to ask if our coffees were coming, oh yes, just getting made now... Were they off to Columbia for the coffee beans?!?! After a further 10 mins wait the coffees arrived and no liqueurs. They had thrown amaretto and Tia Maria in the coffees! We were all disappointed but because we had waited so long we said we would take most of them. And they were stone cold!!!! Must've been sitting for 40 minutes! Would like to add a man and a waitress were swanning around setting up tables for morning instead of seeing to our needs. Disgusting!! It was meant to a be a special occasion and were made to feel unwelcome!! Such a shame!

Full breakfast was superb - probably the hottest plate of breakfast I have ever eaten in a hotel. We were attending a wedding, and the food served at the function was incomparable. My husband had ordered roast beef, and instead of being the thin slices that we're used to he was presented with a thick chunk of, beautiful, lean beef (it looked more like a steak). I had chicken which was absolutely scrummy. If you're in the area make sure you have a meal at the Mansion House Hotel Restaurant.

With a party of 4, we didn't get the usual standard of food & service - instead of four tasty wee savoury nibbles we expected as canapes, we were given a plate with a quartered mini pork pie! I would rather they'd said they'd run out of canapes, and served nothing - I found it quite offensive that they thought they could fob us off with a pork pie, especially as there was a wedding function on so it was presumably 'borrowed' from the wedding buffet. Won't go back.
