“Wish I could have stayed longer”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2012

The exterior of the architecture of the house is beautiful, and the inside is lovely too. Just inside the doors there is a large foyer with a grand set of stairs leading up to the rooms, the restaurant to one side and the lounge on the other. The rooms are very comfortable, and I found the furnishings to be elegant. The interior of the hotel is much larger that it appears at first glance. Past the front desk there is a game area, and beyond that there are a series of other rooms, including quite a large hall. It handled our large group without a problem. I was there for business, so I didn't get the chance to experience all the amenities of the hotel, but I was very impressed with everything I saw.

We have just returned from an excellent 2 night break at the Mansion House Hotel. The hotel was very easy to find and there was plenty of safe parking. The grounds were well kept despite being partially fenced off for crucial flood defence works. We stayed in a standard room (number 6) on the first floor which overlooked the front garden/car park. The room was a decent size, very clean, and had a large comfortable bed with crisp cotton bedding together with a huge TV. Walkers shortbread provided a most appreciated welcome! The bathroom was again very clean and was roomy with a shower over the bath.

One point to note, if you’re not very agile on your feet this might not be the best room for you as there was a tiled surround on the bath which you had to climb over to get in and there wasn’t a grab rail. Fluffy dressing gowns were provided and there was a note in the room encouraging guests to ask if they needed more of anything e.g. towels, tea etc.

We came into contact with about 10 members of the hotel staff during our stay and they were all, without exception, very polite, helpful and friendly. The lady who booked us in on arrival also showed us round the hotel and took us up to our room which was a nice welcome.

Breakfast was a choice of a cooked Scottish breakfast or continental. On the first day we tried the cooked breakfast and it was lovely. Non greasy and delicious produce. Service was good and the restaurant was well laid out and pretty. The following day we had continental breakfast in our room as we had to leave early and this was also good.

On the Saturday night, we attended a private dinner and ceilidh being hosted by the hotel on behalf of the RAF Kinloss Pipes and Drums. The hotel did an excellent job of organising the event. The 3 course meal was delicious and the service provided was also very good despite the fact that there were in excess of 70 diners. The function room was large and reasonably airy despite the unusually high temperatures outside.

Overall the hotel is quaint and pretty and you could still imagine it as a family home (albeit a very lavish one!). The ambiance is friendly and welcoming throughout and I would certainly recommend the hotel to others and stay there again myself.

Bed was comfortable and the room was nicely laid out. We decided. To eat at the hotel the first night as we were both very tired from a long trip. We were asked whether we wanted to eat in the bistro or the dining room so having an image in our heads of a comfy relaxed room we opted for the bistro. We were shown to a small, sparse, poorly furnished room with a few tables and not much else. The food was not good! Undercooked pastry on pie, pared down reheated potatoes pretending to be new potatoes and tasteless vegetables. Meat in pie was also undercooked.Very disappointing. We were not asked how our meal was so provided no feedback at the time. Overall main hallways are tired and shabby. It could be a lovely hotel as its a lovely building but needs doing up and more importantly a better chef and maybe more focus on customer service.

Thank you for your recent review. We are sorry to hear that you had a dissapointing experience in our Bistro and will be investigating with our chefs what went wrong, our food is usually to a very high standard. We will also be incorporating additional staff training to ensure the quality of our customer service. There is a rolling refurbishment/maintenance programme which will see the corridors being done in the very near future. We hope that your experience did not put you off and that you may return to the Hotel in the future.

Stayed in the red room (very nice). Staff couldn't do enough. I found the food to be very good. Yes the corridors are a little dated and I opted not to use the spar, but to me these were minor things and did not detract from the overall experience. Would definitely go back again.

Room Tip: The red room!

This Hotel is a well hidden paradise very close to the centre of town. However the tranquillity and piece that you experience here could be only found miles from anywhere or on a desert island (with No waves!) The rooms are well proportioned and very luxurious. All have their own individual layout, however, all are excellent! The dining room has a variety of excellent food for all tastes, and the staff are extremely helpful and welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble, and a sense of anything that they can do to help they will, prevails! I would recommend either long or short stay!!

Decided to book the Mansion house on the word of a local lady we met in the local car park, and it was good advise.
The welcome was warm and friendly, the room (2) was lovely with a great big 4 poster bed and a spotless toilet the two important things for me in any hotel room.
I am writing this review from another hotel in Inverness and this one is not close to the Mansion House but only slightly cheaper.
The menue was nice possibly could be a little more varied, wine choice was good and drinks were well priced.
Staff were great and plenty of interaction with all the guests that we saw, chef even came out the kitchen to make sure my (rock hard egg) that i requested was ok, and it was.

Overall a lovely place and good staff would recommend to everybody.

Room Tip: Room 2 over looking the river, or and room over looking the car park and lawns

I stayed at the Mansion House with my husband and 4 friends on the night of Saturday 18th February. There are a lot of very good things about this hotel, but unfortunately, there are also some bad.
First - the good......... (1) when you drive up to the hotel, the general appearance of the building is beautiful - a true mansion house - beautiful architecture - definitely makes you want to come in and see what's inside. (2) lovely welcome - in fact the staff were very courteous and polite throughout our stay. Everyone we met provided very good service. (3) the public areas - lounge, dining room, reception, lobby, - are lovely. Nicely decorated and very welcoming. Very comfortable. Beautiful flowers in the lobby. (4) our bedroom - we were in room 15 - was great. Beautiful big sleigh bed - very comfortable. Big plasma screen TV mounted on the wall (but you could only watch it from bed - not from a chair). Nice decor again. Great to have a window that opened (I like fresh air!). The bathroom was OK - average really - great shower, but overall, the bathroom was nothing special.
Now..... the bad. (1) the corridors leading to the bedrooms and to the leisure club are quite shabby - worn carpets, scuffed floors, not very well maintained. (2) the leisure club (swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna) have seen better days. The changing rooms were horrid. Not a very nice experience to use this leisure facility. It wasn't exactly dirty - just old, shabby, and in need of refurbishment. (3) the food served to us in the restaurant wasn't great - either at dinner or at breakfast. Examples are - Linguini with seafood where the pasta was crispy on the top and swimming in olive oil at the bottom; and poached eggs at breakfast that smelled and tasted very strongly of vinegar. (4) the price - £180 for DB&B for 2 people is not exactly cheap - neither was it good value for money.
This hotel could be really outstanding, but they need to spend some money on refurbishment and look at the quality of their food.

Thank you for your review, it's great to hear that you enjoyed most aspects of your stay with us but please accept our apologies that the complete experience was not to your satisfaction. I have passed your comments to our team of chefs who have a good standard of consistency but will make any improvements as neccesary. We have an ongoing refurbishent plan which includes the corridors and leisure facilities so we will see improvements to them in the coming months. Once again thank you for your comments and we hope that you may return to the hotel sometime in the future.
