“Good for a short visit”
Reviewed August 1, 2014

A pleasant stop on our way to the east coast. Stayed in the family room on the top floor.
Fantastic seafront view. Unfortunatelly room smelled as if a wet dog stayed the night before.
Shower a bit weak.
Restaurant with good food and pleasant staff. All in all a good place for a fair price.

Thank you for your comments and I'm glad overall it was a good visit. There is no smell in the room now and nothing reported at the time so I can only apologise for that.

Our room had a sea view which was great. Hotel is in a brilliant location overlooking large green area and sea front. Lovely fish supper with tea, bread and butter. Accommodating and friendly staff. Bar is a bit dark during the day but there is a good patio area at the rear.

I stayed in a single room as was meeting family in Nairn. Bed was nice and comfortable and TV in room had freeview and good wifi access. Bathroom was small but adequate, minor complaint was that shower curtain was dirty and the strength of the shower was not very strong even on the highest setting. I had breakfast in the hotel and this was excellent, cereal and orange juice available and a cooked breakfast and toast with tea or coffee. Overall great value for money and nice views out onto Nairn beach. £45 a night with breakfast included was great value imo.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the sea for a lovely view out over the Black Isle

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. I'm glad your visit was, on the whole, a good one. I'm disappointed to hear there was an issue with the shower and will rectify this immediately.

We spent 4 days in Nairn, and having done a bit of research before going, we sought out The Braeval due to good reviews. we dined there 1 night, spent another evening listening to a live band and returned for another eve for drinks. At all times the staff were very pleasant, the food was plentiful and v tasty and the choice of real ales was superb. A full restaurant each eve was testament to its popularity and a great band, Ezra, kept us entertained. So, if you are in the area, do drop in to The Braeval, it was everything everyone had said it was...and more!!!!!

The hotel itself is very nice although our shower didn't work--each room has an on-demand hot water system for showers. The staff was quite concerned and reduced our night's bill by 20GBP. The Bandstand restaurant associated with the hotel is very good and has excellent views of the Nairn beach. I recommend a walk on the beach.

The hotel was quiet (busy, but peaceful), the room comfortable and for a single, quite roomy. Wifi was good everywhere and the choice of real ales in the bar was extra good! The food in the restaurant was also good especially the superfood salad, something I have never seen before, but really all very tasty, especially the home made hummus and guacamole!! Very reasonably priced and lovely views out to sea and to the Black Isle. I have stayed in a couple of different places in Nairn before, but I will definitely stay in the Braeval in future.

In many ways this hotel is what I would expect in this area at this price point.

Pro: The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was as expected, a buffet of cold fruits and cereal plus hot food to order. The food was tasty and plentiful.
The hotel is in an older building, so expect charming old world character. The clean, comfortable room was on the small side but with adequate room to walk around. The bad was comfortable, but again a smaller double bed. We did not try the TV.

Con: Sleep quality is the most important thing for my husband. The curtains in room 4 are flimsy and do not keep out the early morning light. This would only be an issue in the middle of the summer when the sun comes up at 5 am.
This hotel is over the best bar in Nairn. They had a band Saturday night that played until 12:30. If you like bars and bands this would not be an issue, but we were trying to sleep. The other nights, bar patrons were sitting right outside our window in the nice outdoor sitting area enjoying them selves until late at night. Again if you like to stay up late and drink this is not an issue, but because of this nightly noise, this was not the hotel for us.
The internet was flaky the whole time we were there. It worked best in the bar. I was willing to sit in the bar, my husband was not. The manager tried restarting the router and assured us that they were moving to a better system, but other than I give them credit for trying and apologizing , it didn't help us.

Room Tip: Not room 4.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments and for itemising them so helpfully.

However, I believe your rating of "poor" is a bit harsh, and it indicates that your expectation was of something other than a 3 star "pub hotel". We describe the Braeval as a pub-hotel and our description states "some rooms are affected by noise from the bar, if this a concern, please contact us and we will allocate a quiet room if one is available". We also advertise widely which dates live music is taking place in the hotel.

I'm sorry that the free WiFi was erratic during your visit as we were awaiting an upgrade that week (now completed).

I think it's unfortunate that you didn't read the information we provide about our hotel carefully and so selected the wrong style of hotel for your preferences (a more expensive business hotel would probably have suited you better).
