“Fantastic Hotel , great value and very friendly staff”
Reviewed March 29, 2009

My wife and i booked this hotel for a short weekend break for ourselves - an escape from the kids , i don't think we could have booked better , the hotel is a little more "traditional" in it's decor , however the welcome at reception was pleaant enough and we were into or room within 5 mins of arriving in the car park - and what a room we were given , Queen size 4 poster bed , with ample living space which included two armchairs , desk and chair , TV and unit + a full sized wardrobe , the bathroom (which was the same size as some rooms we've stayed in the past , had a seperate shower and bath , the batch was one of these huge spa/jacuzzi types , one small criticism of the room would be that the windows are single glazed and not in the best of condiion and on our first night which was very windy they constantly rattled , we had to jam paper in the frame to stop this from happening - perhaps they should concentrate on the windows for the next round of refurbishment.

The bar was well stocked and had a huge maly whisky choice as you might expect from a hotel in the Highlands , drinks were priced on a par with hotels in larger cities , a pint of laget plus a white wine spritzer coming in at £7 , the bar staf were always attentive and soon knew what my order was going to be when i made my way to the bar.
Th hotel has two restaurants , one is in a Conservatory and has an ala carte menu , the other (which we used) was a table d'hote type used to serve guests who had booked an package inclusive of dinner , b&b , i can't comment for the food in the conservatory but the food we had was exceptional , a choice of 4 meals for each course were available , the duck dish i had on the Friday was one of the best meals i have ever had , on the second night i opted for Chicked which again was beautifully prepared and tasted wonderful , one monir grip would be that the menu on our two nights were very similar with two fish dishes being served on both nights , but no beef dish on either night , seems a little strange but as i said only a minor gripe.

I also used the Leisure facilities while their , the gym needs a huge overhaul , it's very tight , small , cramped and in general looked tired , that said i managed my best time ever for 5k using their treadmill !!!!

The sauna , steam room , pool and jacuzzi were all excellent , clean and well kept , i thoroughly enjoyed the sauna and came out completely refreshed after using it.

The town of Nairn itself doesn't have much to it and it is a very quiet place from what we seen , however the hotel managed to keep our attention for a couple of days , i think it would make a great base for anyone wish to have a tour around this area or indeed looking to take advantage of some of the great golf courses in the area.

All in all a great break with great food and excellent hospitality thrown in , all i would say it fix the windows in the bedroom !!! (that said the rest of the room was great - ask for room 30 must be one of the best in the hotel - see pics for view)

I was lucky enough to be given surprise 3 day trip to this hotel, what can I say it was great, we had a great room with a window seat looking over onto the Moray Firth.

If I was to be critical in the least I would agree with the previous comments on the fact that the menu is very similar for all the nights we stayed, although when we spoke to the staff about this they had no problem with us eating from the other menu so it didn’t cause us a problem,

The leisure facilities were great.

This is the second Crerar hotel we have stayed in this year and I can’t wait to stay in another.

We used to love this hotel, it is in the most wonderful setting, but our visit this week was so disappointing. The staff are either very overworked or don`t care. The restaurant was very poor for lunch, the table took ages to get cleared, and the plates were then cleared to the next table. One of us gave up waiting for coffee, and the other coffees looked as if they had come by bus from somewhere. And it was not cheap. Quite sad.

Thank you for posting a review.I am disappointed that you did not enjoy your lunch visit to the hotel. We do clear dishes to a service table in the lower part of the Conservatory that are then placed on trays to carry to the kitchen .Our kitchen is quite a distance away from the Conservatory and if this is what you felt was staff putting dirty dishes onto another table then we will look to review how we can better service this.
I will follow this up and invesitage why the coffee was not up to standard.
We do pride ourselves on giving a high level of service and will review all issues relating to lunch service in order that a better experience is delivered in future.
We do service many guests throughout the hotel and feel that the majority of them are very happy with the quality of food and service and customer experience offered. We offer our apologises to you and hope that you will re-visit sometime in the future. We will addresss the issues raised

Kind Regards

Being a fussy traveller, I checked out the reviews of this hotel before booking. Overall, the reviews were very good but until you have experienced somewhere yourself, you are always cautious.
I need not of worried. From the time we arrived until the time we departed, we were made to feel very welcomed and the staff made a big fuss of our two young chidren (one 2 and one 8mths).
Our room, a family room situated on the first floor, was large and had a separate room (bunkbed) for our eldest son. It was situated at the rear of the hotel and had fantastic views across the sea towards the Black Isles. The room itself and the bathroom were well appointed and spotlessly clean.
We chose this hotel primarily for its location but also for its facilities ie an indoor pool and gym. The pool and adjacent areas were again spotlessly clean and the gym was well equipped.
Food wise, apart from our fifth and final night, we ate every night in the hotel restaurant. There are two eating areas, one in the hotel itself ( where breakfast is served) and one in the conservatory. The latter is ideal for parents with chidren as feeding time can not only be demanding for children and parents alike, but also for other diners, so a separate area devoid of noise (and children) is available. The food itself was lovelly with a good portions and a good choice. The only comment we would make is that the menu could do with being changed more frequently as after staying for four or more nights, choice can be limited. A minor detail really.
Overall, we had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay at the hotel. The staff were all very polite, were well trained and as highlighted above, made us and our two children feel very welcomed. As a result, we will certainly be returning in the next three months or so as well as staying over the Christmas period. Can't wait !

Thanks for your kind comments and for posting a review on your stay.I am delighted you had a good stay with us and we look forward to you returning.I was not at the hotel when you stayed over, but have heard from a very reliable source that the kids were wonderful.
We will be introducing daily changes to our Conservatory menu to make this more interesting and varied and will look to introduce more changes with our restaurant menu also.
The family units at the hotel are great for size and were are pleased you found these to your liking.
We are still looking to improve all aspects of what is on offer, but feel that guests will not be disappointed with what is on offer at the hotel.
Look forward to meeting you on your next visit.

Best wishes

We were staying for a family occasion so between us had two standard rooms. Both were a good size and quality, minor quibble that the room at the front of the hotel had sash windows that would not stay open until we found a way to prop them open. Rooms were very warm on arrival but the heating was fully controllable.

The staff were all fantastic, very helpful and polite. We were particularly impressed on the last day when we asked if we could buy some of the fudge tablet served with coffee the night before, they brought out two carefully wrapped packets (one for each grandchild) at no cost.

Food was excellent, particularly in the restaurant and at breakfast. Food in the Conservatory also very tasty (and very generous portions!) if less refined. Prices are very good value.

Pool area and gym were clean and well maintained and the beautiful beach is literally at the end of the garden and with no road to cross so completely child friendly.

We would all definitely return and can't really fault it at all, the hotel would suit anyone from people on business to families and romantic couples.

Just returned from yet another visit to the Golf View, this time to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We were not disappointed. Staff efficient and friendly. Food was good last time but even better this time. Everything spotless. Pleased to see a beautician now on the premises for that extra bit of pampering! Looking forward to the next time!
