My wife and i booked this hotel for a short weekend break for ourselves - an escape from the kids , i don't think we could have booked better , the hotel is a little more "traditional" in it's decor , however the welcome at reception was pleaant enough and we were into or room within 5 mins of arriving in the car park - and what a room we were given , Queen size 4 poster bed , with ample living space which included two armchairs , desk and chair , TV and unit + a full sized wardrobe , the bathroom (which was the same size as some rooms we've stayed in the past , had a seperate shower and bath , the batch was one of these huge spa/jacuzzi types , one small criticism of the room would be that the windows are single glazed and not in the best of condiion and on our first night which was very windy they constantly rattled , we had to jam paper in the frame to stop this from happening - perhaps they should concentrate on the windows for the next round of refurbishment.
The bar was well stocked and had a huge maly whisky choice as you might expect from a hotel in the Highlands , drinks were priced on a par with hotels in larger cities , a pint of laget plus a white wine spritzer coming in at £7 , the bar staf were always attentive and soon knew what my order was going to be when i made my way to the bar.
Th hotel has two restaurants , one is in a Conservatory and has an ala carte menu , the other (which we used) was a table d'hote type used to serve guests who had booked an package inclusive of dinner , b&b , i can't comment for the food in the conservatory but the food we had was exceptional , a choice of 4 meals for each course were available , the duck dish i had on the Friday was one of the best meals i have ever had , on the second night i opted for Chicked which again was beautifully prepared and tasted wonderful , one monir grip would be that the menu on our two nights were very similar with two fish dishes being served on both nights , but no beef dish on either night , seems a little strange but as i said only a minor gripe.
I also used the Leisure facilities while their , the gym needs a huge overhaul , it's very tight , small , cramped and in general looked tired , that said i managed my best time ever for 5k using their treadmill !!!!
The sauna , steam room , pool and jacuzzi were all excellent , clean and well kept , i thoroughly enjoyed the sauna and came out completely refreshed after using it.
The town of Nairn itself doesn't have much to it and it is a very quiet place from what we seen , however the hotel managed to keep our attention for a couple of days , i think it would make a great base for anyone wish to have a tour around this area or indeed looking to take advantage of some of the great golf courses in the area.
All in all a great break with great food and excellent hospitality thrown in , all i would say it fix the windows in the bedroom !!! (that said the rest of the room was great - ask for room 30 must be one of the best in the hotel - see pics for view)
